Our Edmonton office is seeking a Senior Architectural Designer-Technical to join our team. As a Senior Architectural Designer- Technical you will develop and produce efficient and effective technical design solutions according to context, budget, and technical requirements of architectural projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review information from reports and published documents; evaluate and analyze the information to understand broad requirements of project
Develop complex technical designs to ensure an exemplary solution is delivered that meets quality parameters, project timelines and budgetary requirements
Perform technical reviews and edits drawings as required and reviews design requirements to offer recommendations and create architectural drawings to support constructions projects
Direct design activities such as programming, code research, material and building systems research, laying out program components and calculation of program and building areas; refine and direct the refinement of design options and develops building details
Evaluate site conditions, including zoning requirements and site constraints; may meet with authorities having jurisdiction to establish requirements
Design significant components of the overall building including integrating engineering design and adhering to applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements
Synthesize, interpret and coordinate technical information to write architectural and front-end specifications for Project Manuals
Manage a library of resources, documents and master specifications to ensure information is current and can be accessed and retrieved in a timely manner
Source all materials to be drawn and specified to ensure feasibility and to meet design intent and comply with industry standards
Perform site surveys and field reviews to accurately document existing and new construction conditions and become familiar with standard building techniques
Act as a single point of contact on project issues
May act as concept designer on smaller projects
Performs complex analyses, sampling or data collection, within discipline, for specific portions of broader projects
Process permit response letters and coordinate revisions with engineers and consultants, as required, to obtain necessary documentation and permits
Attend meetings to coordinate drawings and resources, determine project criteria and provide information
Track and review project products, services and shop drawings to ensure adherence to project documents, relevant jurisdictional codes and corporate quality controls
Perform site visitations to determine compliance with construction contract and relevant building and safety codes; prepares reports to document the progress; identifies any deviation from the construction contract and liaises with owner and contactor to resolve issues in a timely manner
Prepare project change documentation as required
Coordinate with contractor, sub-consultants or relevant building authorities to address and document issues with constructability or owner concerns
Manage the delivery of all projects, including leading project teams through all phases of the project
Provide insight, information and recommendations on sector and discipline trends and significant issues provided by members of the design team
Represents the organization and interacts in a professional manner with clients, sub-consultants and contractor representatives
Provide direction and leadership to members of the design team
Have successfully completed related post-secondary education
Demonstrated proficiency in architectural software skills (i.e.AutoCAD, Revit)
Is familiar with architectural design and presentation; intermediate M&E, structural building systems, technical writing, permit and building codes
Possesses experience in project delivery, project management, and client management
Has excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
Registration with a relevant professional architectural or technologist association is an asset
