The Ministry of Central Services is currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Construction 2 for provincial park lands within Wascana Park in Regina. Reporting to the Supervisor, this position will be involved in the maintenance program.
As a Construction 2 you will provide supervisor's instructions to members of the work group; explaining new projects and assignments; allocating work assignments according to established methods and procedures, and establishing priorities, as required.
This position performs repairs, maintenance, renovations, and some manufacturing which includes:
Manufacturing, maintaining and installing signs and related equipment.
Constructing tables, benches, barricades, shelving, fences including sealing, staining, paint and finish coating.
Minor repairs for locks, filing cabinets, furniture, doors, etc.
Operating and performing basic maintenance and repairs on equipment and vehicles (e.g. check and change oil, grease, refuel, clean filters, sharpen blades, etc.)
Interpreting blueprints, plans or sketches for small construction projects
Additionally, you will be required to perform landscape construction and maintenance such as:
Reviewing plans and designs with a supervisor, contractors, and partners
Ensuring proper grades with emphasis on drainage, survey, layout and implement plans in the field.
Identifying modifications required and recommend solutions to problems.
Establishing turf by seed or sod. Planting trees, shrubs, vines, and ground covers and providing aftercare by implementing a suitable watering program.
You will participate in the snow removal program in the winter season (e.g. removing snow and ice from paths, around buildings; apply de-icer; assist with set-up of winter events; warning signs, etc.)
This position involves frequent lifting, carrying and moving supplies and equipment. You will comply with risk management standards, OH&S, Public Health Regulations, and WHMIS. Candidate must possess a current valid Driver’s License. You must be available to work on weekends.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of basic cleaning methods (materials, equipment and methods commonly used in housekeeping/janitorial and sanitation activities); safe equipment and building operation, maintenance and minor repair.
The successful candidate will have the experience and ability to perform building and/or park maintenance, using common hand tools and light equipment. You will have ability to work independently and/or as a contributing member of a park team to complete work assignments and contribute towards a positive working environment. You will have ability to respond accurately, clearly and courteously to inquiries from the general public. You will have ability to physically perform tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving supplies and equipment such as picnic tables and cleaning supplies.
