The Alberta Electric System Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta’s interconnected power grid and also facilitate Alberta’s competitive wholesale electricity market which, in 2019, had 194 pool participants and approximately $7 Billion in annual energy transactions.

Summary of Position:
The System Administrator will perform multiple aspects of support Linux, Netapp, VMWare and Windows environments. This will include resolving hardware/software issues, building and patching servers, creating standards and best practices documents, and providing support for applications running in the Server environment. This role takes part in the on-call rotation.

Accountabilities:
Build new servers to standard specifications, maintain specification
Capacity, availability, patch and monitoring management
System tuning and configuration management
Keep inventories and documentation up to date
Follow change control and incident review processes
TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting
Support 2factor, authenticating e-mail, file transfers, DNS, Time, DHCP, Anti-virus, Active directory
Microsoft Terminal server maintenance
Maintain security of the AESO system
Windows server maintenance and support
Follow AESO Regulation (Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), C-SOX)
Write and debug shell, perl, and powershell scripts
Troubleshoot hardware problems

Education / Degree / Certification:
Completion of either a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a two year Technical diploma in Computer Technology
An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered

Job Experience:
Must have a minimum of 1 - 5 years of experience with Linux/Unix systems along with resolving hardware issues and with experience with Netapp or similar Storage environments
1 to 5 years broad/general IT experience in a large environment in Windows 2008 and up including time spent as a Windows System Administrator
Working level understanding of UCS CISCO hardware, VMware Virtual Infrastructure 6 and Flexpod Infrastructure
Basic proficiency with vRealize Operations Manager, Site Recovery Manager, Log Insight, System Center, Anti-Spam (IronPort), RSA SecurID, DNS, DHCP, Spotlight on AD, Spotlight on Messaging, Recovery Manager for AD and Recovery Manager for Exchange
Experience working with Netapp, CIFS shares and with patch management tools (Ivanti)

Unix

Knowledge of HP hardware, VMware Virtual Infrastructure 6, Netapp and NFS storage
Working knowledge of Apache, e-mail, FTP, SCP, cron
General knowledge of Oracle Databases and Application servers along with Java

Storage

Good understanding of ON-Tap and backup Software and methodologies
