Manager of Treasury and Support Services

Our client is a private company whose primary business is energy transportation for the energy services, mining, forestry and industrial sectors. They are a high growth company with a market capitalization in excess of $400MM, over 300 employees in both Canada and the United States. Their business has nearly doubled in scale over the last year and continues to grow.

Summary

Reporting to the VP Finance & Corporate Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for the accounts receivable, accounts payable and banking functions of the organization. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a small team of support service accountants and play a key role in the growth of an emerging fuel supply service company. The position is based in the Calgary corporate office.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash and banking functions of the business
  • Provide a high standard of service in key financial accounting operational functions by proactively dealing with all internal and external queries in a timely manner
  • Assist in day to day treasury and banking requirements, cash forecasting and bank covenant reporting
  • Manage and report foreign exchange exposure risks to the VP Finance and Chief Financial Officer
  • Oversee bank reconciliations and cheque runs
  • Identify control weaknesses within your areas of responsibility and implement the necessary changes to ensure accounting controls are maintained
  • Be a part of the drive for process innovation - Develop new processes and systems to support your areas of responsibility. This includes increasing the efficiency of the accounts payable process, implementing EFT, and improving DSO by streamlining the collections process
  • Build effective partnerships with staff throughout the organization
  • Provide training and coaching to the general accountants within your team
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for financial information, KPI reporting and operational reporting
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the enterprise by performing other duties as required

The ideal candidate:

  • Accounting or Finance Degree
  • Completed professional accountancy program (CPA)
  • 5+ years of experience at a Manager/Controller level
  • Relevant financial accounting, reporting and management experience
  • Advanced/expert Excel skills; intermediate PowerPoint skills
  • Data analytics a significant asset
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking
  • Detail oriented and takes initiative
  • Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills with the ability to get things done
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a team player who can act as both a leader and an individual contributor as required
  • Confident and effective communication (written & verbal)
  • Is adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change
  • Highly service-oriented with exceptional organizational and follow up skills
