Intermediate/ Senior Mechanical Designer

We are looking for an individual to join our Design Team and be apart of Continuous Improvement of our Main Product Lines, engage in our technical innovation and development of key product lines. Primarily focused on product development for the packaging industry. Individual must be knowledgeable in several engineering disciplines in order to present new and innovative concepts and to develop these concepts into viable industry products. This position will require the responsibility at minimum an Intermediate role.

Education: Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, 3D SolidWorks

Certificates: Preference given to candidates with CET or P.Eng and have an active membership in OACETT or P.Eng Ontario but not a requirement

Experience: 4 plus years related industry experience, Preference given to experience with FARO ARM and Solid Works and manufacturing

Ability to work independently preparing layouts, assembly drawings, detail drawings and designs according to design requirements specified by the customer. Involvement and overall project responsibility is required from the beginning of a project to the final installation of the parts at the customers plant.

The individual will be responsible for design from concepts to completion and will require liaising with customers, suppliers and Legislative bodies to ensure all requirements of fit, form and function are met in accordance with the project. This includes ensuring that all design drawings and manufacturing Bills of Materials for individual projects, for both external and internal subcontractors are completed according to the dates assigned while collaborating on joint projects & decisions. This individual will also be responsible for conducting measurements and reverse engineering of parts and machinery at a customer’s plant. The measurements taken at a customer’s plant do require frequent travel to another country with travel notice being on a short timeline. The instruments you will be required to use are Vernier’s, micrometers, measuring rules, protractors, FARO ARM, laptop computer utilizing CAD SOLIDWORKS, trigonometric & mathematic calculations. orks within the principles of the “Leadership Legacy”.

Duties and Responsibilities * Must be proficient in mechanical design in 2D, 3D, and solid modeling in order to generate mechanical and electro-mechanical layout, sketches, and notes with minimum direction. * Meet with customers, sales, project managers, other designers, or engineers to understand the needs and requirements for a new product or mechanical design or system. * Research, design, evaluate, maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles * Specify system components, prepare bills of material (BOM’s) or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. * Apply design and fabrication knowledge to ensure project functionality, manufacturability; reliability and cost goals are achieved * Ability to check completed layouts, drawings, for proper fit and function, ECO's and BOM's for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications and accuracy of calculations, dimension and tolerances. * Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to installation/service technicians. * May oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that parts are installed and functioning according to specifications. * Prepare requirements specifications, risk assessments, product operating instructions and manuals. * Engage in meetings that focus on pre and post measure up and design.

  • Work Environment: For the most part, must work in an office environment in front of a computer monitor.Will be required to work in either a manufacturing/machining facility and or consumer product processing facility.Individual must be willing and able to work in and around machines and equipment.Must be willing and able to travel both nationally and internationally, be able to obtain and drive rental cars and must be able to obtain credit card for business related travel. Preference may be given to candidates who have knowledge and experience in electrical design and or PLC

Qualifications: * The candidate must possess either a certificate or degree from a technical college or university in mechanical design, mechatronics or mechanical engineering or related field. * Individual must have a minimum of 4 years’ work experience from graduation in the mechanical design/mechatronics field. * The individual will have working knowledge of mechanical parts, strength of materials, mechanics properties of materials. * Must have a working knowledge of SolidWorks and must possess solid PDM understanding and experience. * Either will have, willing to and able to get a professional technical designation. Must possess solid written and verbal communication skills * Must be able and willing to work in a team environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $22.00 to $28.00 /hour
