Job Summary
We are looking to hire an experienced, friendly, and helpful, RN or RPN for our Operating Room. Collaborating closely with the Registered Nurse giving care to patients with stable conditions, the Nurse reports any deviations, and provides input into the decision-making regarding patients’ care. Regular duties and responsibilities include:
- Acting as scrub and recovery room nurse, and performing circulating nurse duties in the procedure room
- Safely administering medications—with the exception of IV sedation meds—within the designated scope of practice
- Starting, monitoring, and discontinuing IVs
- Maintaining procedure room equipment for sterilization, patient monitoring, aspiration and vacuum pump
- Reprocessing medical devices according to infection control practices
- Monitoring patients’ vital signs, blood sugar levels, and so on
- Providing patients with advice and support, and ensuring that their rights of confidentiality and privacy are protected
- Participating as a member of our multidisciplinary team of physicians, office and admin staff, technicians, embryologists, and complimentary medical practices—including interdepartmental units at WCH and Sunnybrook
- Liaising with medical staff from satellite units for booking procedures
- Pursuing greater proficiency through higher education research and practices, in accordance with CNO, RPNAO, and CFAS codes of ethics
- Practicing evidence-based nursing in accordance with the codes and standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, CFAS, and CReATe Fertility Centre
- Respecting each patient’s cultural and spiritual needs
- Ensuring the accurate and safe resolution of supplies, including stock medications
- Seeing to it that all patient records and entries are clearly kept—making certain they are accurately and legibly signed and dated
- Participating in ongoing training as required, including fire safety, WHMIS, infection control, hygiene, and emergency response and disaster planning
- Other duties as designated.
What You Bring to CReATe: Education, Skills & Experience
- Minimum one to two years’ advanced practice nursing experience, preferably in gynecology, OR, obstetrics, counseling, and/or adult education
- Membership in CFAS nursing special interest groups is preferred
- Current CNO, RPNAO, RNAO and BCLS registration and certification
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills—and possesses a helpful, professional demeanor
- Effective organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Accustomed to remaining calm under pressure, and with exercising the utmost discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information
- Willingness to expand and adapt the Role as our clinic adds additional procedures and treatments
