We are looking for bright, creative and experienced Disability Support Workers for to support people who have autism, developmental and/or other complex disabilities. Our Adult Day Program runs Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:30 am and 3:30 pm at our location at 401 Magnetic Drive in North York. This position is as an independent contractor. The hours are flexible depending on staff's availability.

The MukiBaum Accessibility Centre is a non-government funded charity (NGO) that has a long professional record of developing ground-breaking pioneering successful programs in working with this population. A key element of the MukiBaum’s philosophy is the unique Multi-Focal Approach that was founded and implemented at MukiBaum by Dr. Nehama Baum in 1980. The Multi Focal Approach focuses on perceiving the person as a whole human being, as opposed to solely focusing on his or her challenges and disabilities. To enable a person’s hidden abilities to be expressed, MukiBaum treats behaviour as a language of communication that needs to be understood rather than stopped, prohibited and disallowed. Within the Multi Focal Approach, the understanding of the verbal and nonverbal language and behavior of a person enables us to attend to their underlying emotional, psychological and sensory challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside other team members in our Adult Day Program, you will be involved in providing the people we work with such skills as Daily Living Skills, social, educational and cognitive skills as well as art, music, drama, sports, daily walks, yoga, and dance
  • With a Mission Statement of “Providing the Key to Accessing Ability”we focus on an individualized Person Centeredapproach which is central to our philosophy.

Qualifications:

  • You must be capable of providing humanistic, Person-Centered support to individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, and/or other complex needs.
  • You should be caring and interested to work with young adults in a day program
  • You should have a university B.A degree, or a college diploma in social/developmental services or equivalent
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
  • Required Police Reference Check with Vulnerable People Sector Screening.

Required experience:

  • At least two (2) years’ experience in working directly with individuals with challenging developmental complex disabilities
  • At least two (2) references are required
