Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Laboratory Clinical Supervisor or Designate, the Pathology Scientist is responsible for planning, maintaining and managing the functions in the Gross Lab. This includes specimen handling, gross examination, dissections and dictations, training and quality.

The Pathology Scientist ensures that department services provided are high quality, cost effective and carried out in a timely manner. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders. Collaborates with other AP services in the province to ensure consistency and standardization.

Required Qualifications:
Current certification and in good standing with the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists’ Assistants (CCCPA).

Additional Required Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical and technical terminology. Advanced knowledge of gross dissection techniques and accepted guidelines. Advanced knowledge of cancer staging and grading requirements and guidelines. Knowledge of tissue fixation and preservation techniques. Knowledge of biohazardous and infectious material handling and containment. Knowledge of general laboratory maintenance procedures. Knowledge of the College of Physician and Surgeons accreditation standards and requirements. Knowledge of Laboratory safety, infectious disease procedures and use of safety equipment and incident reporting. Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG). Recognition and maintenance of private information.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three to five years’ experience is an asset.
