The role of the Senior International Project Director is to oversee the planning and execution of assigned projects using available tools and resources to achieve established performance objectives. The Project Director is required to monitor and manage the activities of a cross-functional team, using internal resources and external partners, in order to deliver projects according to plan and to ensure that overall company goals and objectives are achieved. The Project Director should demonstrate a strong commitment to Health & Safety and Ethics & Compliance, reinforcing the importance of these dimensions of our activities in our corporate culture. The Project Director is also required to support and/or lead business development activities (including proposal development), in addition to managing projects. This position will require international travel.



Visibly champion WSP programs of safety and ethics & compliance to ensure they are an overriding part of the organizational culture.
Serve as a role model and influencing employees in accordance with WSP core values and the performance management program, including supporting top talent identification, retention, and development.
Influence a high degree of employee engagement and low turnover of staff.
Lead by example in working with staff, clients, and partners of varied cultures and backgrounds.


Work in collaboration with senior management and other key stakeholders to ensure all assigned project and program goals and objectives are met to support business goals.
Provide technical and project management leadership for multi-discipline projects, with project teams comprised of internal staff and external resources. Projects can be comprised of 4 to 20 staff depending on the duration and complexity of the mandate. Team members can be distributed geographically across several offices and time zones, and will be comprised of both technical and non-technical experts from a wide range of disciplines and specialties.
Due to WSP’s matrix environment, work with functional managers to ensure best resources are secured for projects and onboarded/offboarded efficiently, supporting rapid project mobilizations and maintaining responsiveness to client needs.
Effectively collaborate with peers nationally and in other geographies to leverage technical expertise, ensure client satisfaction and implement best practices while also developing future capabilities through effective strategic talent planning.
Cultivate strong, genuine relationships with team members, clients, partners. Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of assigned programs

Project Management & Process Improvement

Leverage and improve Enterprise Project Management System to plan and deliver projects.
Lead and complete project planning activities, including to establish scope, schedule, and cost baselines.
Establish component management plans (e.g. for risk, quality, and communications management) that are tailored to the scope and complexity of assigned projects.
Communicate plans to the project team.
Monitor and control budgets, timelines, scope, and resource allocations.
Analyze and help solve internal challenges (workflow, delays, etc.).
Guide and direct leaders on measures to mitigate project performance issues and risks, ensuring successful delivery on the contractual commitments and financial targets for the project portfolio to meet client expectations and achieve or exceed profitability targets.
Provide technical and project management leadership to the team, while leveraging the expertise of project teams, particularly in areas outside the project manager’s own areas of expertise.

Business Development

Identify strategic opportunities for clients and help implement positive change. Lead business development efforts by meeting with clients in the context of projects to be realized or the development of potential markets and ensures acceptable returns on the investments, aligned with the business line strategy and its backlog and sales targets.
Manage commercial negotiations with clients to mitigate risk without jeopardizing pursuits, all in accordance with the corporate Delegation of Authority.

The Program Manager shall be strong organizational skills, preferably with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a Master’s degree in engineering management, economics or other similar fields.
He/she must have extensive knowledge and international work experience, particularly in Africa, and be knowledgeable regarding best practices in power system planning (power system master plans, network system planning, and transmission & distribution lines), economics, business models, institutional assessment, contract procedures and project follow-up.
He/she shall also have a proven track record of successfully managing and coordinating as team leader a diverse group of professionals in accomplishing studies or projects of similar nature and complexity to this assignment.
He/she should bring a risk management perspective to the position, together with a track record of responsible and proactive financial management of projects.
A minimum of 20 years of working experience in design and implementation of power projects, especially in electric networks is desired.
Should be bilingual (French and English).
