The Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives will support Walmart Canada’s Program Management Office; partnering with our Executive teams in setting & driving the strategic agenda for profitable growth for Walmart Canada. The role includes collaborating with business leaders across the organization to support identification of top-priority strategic projects, scoping of these projects and designing actionable success metrics, work streams, roadmaps and execution plans to enhance business performance (Walmart Canada short/mid/long-term strategic objectives). In addition, the successful candidate will support strategic planning for Walmart Canada by collaborating with senior executives across the organization. This is a high-visibility role that requires exceptional stakeholder engagement and critical thinking skills; the role has significant independent responsibilities and excellent prospects for career growth.

Position Responsibilities

Support strategic program management, project delivery and corporate governance approach
Partner with business leads to drive the most critical strategic projects to deliver on overall business goals
Support the development of key deliverables such as charters, KPIs, roadmaps & business cases for each strategic project
Work collaboratively with project leads and senior executives to drive and support both corporate-led and business unit-led initiatives
Ensure a robust process to achieve desired outcomes from projects; identify & escalate issues as needed
Support creation of compelling content for executive board meetings and external audiences (including coaching & helping elevate the quality/rigor of project team outputs), to enhance strategic decision making and support recommendations
Provide support / thought leadership to scoping and delivery of critical strategic projects
Develop a deep understanding of project risks & interdependencies, financial business cases, and the critical milestones of key strategic projects
Support teams in ensuring customer-centricity throughout metrics and project outputs
Help business stakeholders to clearly articulate sources of growth opportunities & risks in financial building blocks of strategic plans
Be comfortable in a position of ‘activist project support’ (i.e. challenging leaders to ensure the business is driving towards the strategic intent & financial objectives defined)
Support the adoption and implementation of project/program management methodologies & tools across the business
Support the annual strategic project planning process, functional project intake process, the 3-5 year planning for Walmart Canada, and the development of best-in-class corporate processes and capabilities
Monitor market trends and competition impacting Walmart Canada and its stakeholders
From time-to-time, utilize market research and analytics-based insights to inform opportunities and risks for the organization, through internal and external sources; including economic outlook, competitor activity, marketplace environment and consumer trends

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Operational Research, Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering or related fields); MBA preferred
Minimum experience required (3-5 years in a fast-paced environment); Consulting, M&A, Investment Banking, Retail industry experience considered an asset

Strong business acumen and sound judgment

Good PPT and communication skills
Thrives in a fast-moving environment, with high tolerance for change and ability to adapt
