Position Title: Fab Lab Technician/Teaching Assistant

Position Group: Staff

Reports to: Fab Lab Coordinator

Status: Contract

Start date: January 7, 2019

Specific responsibilities include:

Technical Responsibilities

  • Maintaining lab equipment and tools, including lab computers and software;
  • Ensuring a safe and organized working environment;
  • Helps to assess and organize the inventory of consumable products within the Fab Lab;
  • Works with the Fab lab Coordinator to develop training aids and effective documentation on the safe operation of various tools and equipment;
  • Keeps track of lab users, projects, and material use.
  • Help run and design summer programs.

Pedagogical Responsibilities

  • Works with students of all ages and teachers to ensure safe and adequate operational knowledge of all tools and equipment within the Fab Lab;
  • Assists the Fab Lab Coordinator in the design and implementation of innovative activities for students of all ages;
  • Helps to develop and organize the LCC Design Fair and other Fab Lab demonstrations, exhibits and conferences on and off campus;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • Knowledge of Fab Labs, maker culture, and STEAM;
  • Demonstrated experience working with digital fabrication and creative applications of technology;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of shop safety and appropriate machine use;
  • Basic understanding of electronics and circuit building;
  • Willingness to learn new tools and processes;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skill;
  • Experience working students in grades 7-11 and with younger ages an asset.
  • Understanding of the culture of independent schools an asset;
  • Relevant post-secondary education and/or work experience;
  • Understanding and experience of the Quebec Curriculum and educational context an asset;
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
