Nunatsiavut Marine Inc. (NMI), a subsidiary of Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC), is looking to hire a Traffic Attendant/Labourer based out of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL. This position reports to the Port Manager.

You would be primarily responsible to provide direction and guidance to customers arriving at the ticket office and or freight yard in the Port of Goose Bay. This role is critical in ensuring that all matters related to directing traffic and access control around the facilities during operating hours comply with LMI/NMI COVID 19 procedures. Providing clear concise direction and exceptional customer service is a top priority for this position as you would be in frequent communication with customers and stakeholders on a daily basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance to passengers and freight customers arriving at the ticket or freight office.
  • Directs customer enquiries to appropriate channels, as required;
  • Controls access to the freight yard and freight drop-off area during operating hours and ensures rules are followed regarding COVID 19 restrictions;
  • Directs passengers and vehicle traffic during vessel boarding process, ensuring rules are followed regarding COVID 19 restrictions;
  • Records and reports any notable incidents or suspicious activities;
  • When not working as a traffic attendant, will be or could be used to assist other staff in the ticket or freight yard as required. This could include but not limited to palletizing, wrapping, loading freight in containers or boxes. Light janitorial duties to ensure compliance with COVID 19 procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Operations Manager or Port Manager;

Qualifications:

  • Experience in customer service acquired by working with and dealing with the public;
  • Experience as a general labourer
  • Dynamic and friendly personality;
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations while maintaining a professional demeanor dealing with the public.

Assets:

  • Relevant postsecondary education and/or vocational training in a security environment would be considered an asset;

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

The seasons generally begin in mid-June and can last until the late fall. An end date to the seasonal contract is open and subject to change based on operational demands.

Preference will be given to beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement. Applicants are asked to clearly state their beneficiary status on their cover letter or resume when applying. The successful candidate must be a resident of or willing to relocate to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL area at their own expense. Overtime might be required contingent to suit operational demands.
