Our Mississauga office is looking for a skilled Senior Database Administrator to join our team!

As a Senior Database Administrator you will be responsible for the implementation, management, support, troubleshooting, monitoring and maintenance of ALL Cloud based and on-premise SQL Servers in 7x24 environment. The individual will report to Manager of Database Administration and Architecture. This role will have broad ranging responsibilities supporting multiple teams and environments.

What you get to do every day:
As the Senior Database Administrator, your key responsibilities will include:

Provide direct level 2 and 3 database support for development, pre-prod and production environments
Perform SQL server installation and configuration in stand-alone, clustered and AOAG settings
Provide all aspects of database support for AZURE based database infrastructure.
Perform database tuning and configuration to ensure optimum performance on all client databases.
Provide expert level ETL and scripting to existing and new processes.
Use native and/or external tools such as SQL server DMVs, Profiler, Querystore and Query Plan guides to quickly pinpoint trouble spots and resolve performance issues.
Plan and implement database upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
Research, recommend and execute improvements to SQL server environment in order to maximize efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Design and maintain database backup and recovery strategies including long term retention strategy, tape backups and backup encryption.
Develop and maintain server and Database documentation.
Conduct code review for all stored procedures, views, functions and data types.
Drive design and review of new database systems and conduct capacity planning and forecasting as needed.
Ensure implementation of audit technologies, policies and procedures to ensure server/database security.
Provide on-call support outside of working hours for business-critical systems.

What skills do you need?:
As an experienced and driven Senior Database Administrator you are able to demonstrate your solid experience in basic system administration and high-level DBA capabilities. You are able to examine query execution plans, evaluate indexing structures and table structures and provide solid recommendations to improve query performance.

You should also have

8 – 10 years of work experience in a database administration capacity.
3 – 5 years experience managing systems and databases in the cloud (Azure/AWS)
Working knowledge of database table partitioning techniques and processes.
Good understanding of database encryption technologies and best practices.
Solid understanding of Operating System, Active Directory and Network technologies
Strong understanding of database structures, principles and best practices
Excellent knowledge of MS High availability and disaster recovery technologies (Clustering and AOAG), policies and procedures.
Bachelor of computer science, Information technology or equivalent field and experience.

It would also be great (but not necessary) if you have:
Power BI and SSRS report builder
Working knowledge of SSIS and SSAS
Experience with database modeling, normalization and associated tools and applications
Knowledge of programming languages, C#, Java and Perl.
Working knowledge of third-party database monitoring tools such as IDERA and Site 24X7
Strong understanding of modern storage and networking systems
Clear understanding of ITIL and ITSM considered an asset
