The Associate Manager, Security assists the Manager, Security with responsibility for the general security and safety of the CN Tower, its assets, employees, tenants, contractors and all guests. The role also helps manage the day-to-day operations of the building’s Security department and security equipment, and for ensuring that all occupants of the CN Tower are provided with the highest standards of life safety, fire safety, service excellence, attraction quality, location cleanliness, and operational efficiency. The Associate Manager, Security provides a memorable guest experience by ensuring building safety is paramount and never compromised. The Associate Manager, Security assists the Manager with the performance management and motivation of all departmental staff. Required to supervise shifts, attend and assist with coordination of departmental management meetings, the Associate Manager also assists with improving and upgrading security equipment and systems, standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines used by the department.

Security – Operations • Exercise timely two-way communication with all staff, tenants, and other departments; update standing orders and ensure all staff are up-to-date with changes • Aid the Manager, Security with the review all daily security incident reports to ensure verbiage is clear, grammatically correct and format is consistent with good evidence maintenance procedures and ensure prompt follow-up of incidents • Assist investigations particularly those incidents dealing with health and safety • Handle customer complaints tactfully to maintain good public relations image • Ensure proper documentation is maintained • Assist in key control (Keywatcher) and inventory system; supervise cutting and issuance of keys for non-public and high security areas, ensuring keys are issued only to authorized personnel and recovered when necessary; maintain records of keys issued and returned • Provide direction, assistance and investigates all first aid incidents which occur on or near CN property; dispenses and administers first aid and CPR when necessary • Ensure that the Security team is adequately trained and that supplies are sufficient in quantity. • Deal with tenants relative to their space and security issues • Staff and monitor lost and found section to facilitate the return of property to rightful owners and/or proper disposal of abandoned items • Assist where necessary in providing cash escorts for all staff when depositing money in drop safe and maintain a safety deposit situation for cash floats • Issue uniforms and equipment to Security Services Personnel, as necessary • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Security Life Safety Plan • Ensure Life Safety Orientation is up to date and issued to all new employees, tenants and contractors that will be working on property • Issue uniforms and equipment to Security Services Personnel, as necessary • Develop and revise existing life safety, crowd control, evacuation, fire safety and emergency plans, policies and procedures • Maintain and upkeep MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) binders • Review and update of the fire plan minimum every six (6) months or as required by law • Supervise and carry out two fire drills minimum per year or as required by fire code • Ensure knowledge of the Building Code and Fire Code and its application to the CN Tower • Ensure knowledge of law changes, bills, acts etc., implement changes to department as needed • Ensure all emergency equipment and fire extinguishers are maintained on a regular inspection program Budget • Assist in the development of and update monthly and annual departmental budget Emergency Services and Property Services Liaison • Assist the Manager, Security in developing relationships with local authorities – Police, Fire, Ambulance and Building Department Human Resource Administration • Submit appropriate documentation regarding department changes in a timely manner • Advise Human Resources of both occupational and non-occupational illness, injury or prolonged absences in a timely manner • Ensure all employees follow company standards of conduct and behaviour while on the property and meet professional image and hygiene standards as set out by CN Tower Staff Development • Assist with, or conduct monthly supervisory meetings and oversee line employee briefings and meetings • Assist with or develop individual Supervisor portfolio plans; provide guidance and coaching to Supervisors within their portfolios • Assist with or develop plans to increase employee productivity, motivation and morale • Assist with or conduct departmental performance appraisals; provide leadership and guidance in all employee corrective actions situations or performance management • Provide analysis and recommendations regarding department succession planning • Provide recommendations for training and development plans overseeing all departmental training • Review and evaluate professional development opportunities for staff • Conduct evaluations through regular spot checks and yearly performance appraisals of all direct and non-direct reports Recruitment and Training • Provide analysis and recommendations regarding seasonal staffing needs and staffing levels on an ongoing basis • Conduct departmental skills training; facilitate seasonal training programs as required • Assist with, or create and implement Standard Operating Procedures and Operations Manuals • Responsible for the recruiting and assisting in recruitment of Security personnel • Provide and source training to SE’s DT, First Aid/CPR and Defibrillator, Tactical Communication, Dynamic Simulation Training, Recruit Training, Life Safety Training, Policies and Procedures, Fire Safety Training Scheduling • Oversee the Security department’s staff scheduling based on budget • Maintain time sheets and payroll reports for the department, and ensure accuracy relative to overtime, absenteeism, poor time keeping, etc.; distribute pay advice notice to staff. • Monitor employee holidays and sick days • Control labour cost through effective forecasting, appropriate staff schedules and accurate payroll reporting • Assist with event planning, staffing and deployment, as well as be on-site for major event(s) In addition to the Key Functions listed above, the (title) in (department) is also responsible for the following tasks: • Be an active member in CN Tower committees such as JHSC, Fire Warden Committee, Broadcaster Committee and Crisis committee • Attend court and prepare relevant evidence for court cases • Additional responsibilities as directed by Manager, Security or Director, Operations • Adhere to all Company policies and departmental procedures

  • A relevant college diploma or university degree in law enforcement, security or equivalent is preferred•A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience in the security field•Working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation and regulation in the area of security and life safety requirements/guidelines•A good understanding and familiarity with security plans, procedures, and applications•First Aid, CPR and Smart Serve certification is required•Superior organizational skills necessary coordinate multiple projects•Demonstrated skills in developing, managing and monitoring operational budgets and plans to achieve corporate objectives•Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and to apply problem-solving skills on a variety of issues.•Bilingualism (English/French) is an assetWORKING CONDITIONSAble to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, conflicting demands, frequent interruptions, and heavy workloadsAbility to stand or walk for long periods of the dayAbility to work in varying weather conditions (including but not limited to cold and hot weather)Flexible to work rotating shifts, which includes but is not limited to evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as requiredLight to moderate physical effort; requires handling of light and moderate weight objects including technical equipment (vests, uniforms) and other materials/suppliesAbility to crawl, climb (i.e. stairs, ladders), get into confined spaces, and work at heightsWork involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noisesWilling to become certified in defibrillator operation, Tactical Communication, and Defense Tactics
