Established in 1992, EDC Associates Ltd. based in Calgary, is Alberta’s leading independent energy-consulting firm, that provides consulting services with respect to Energy Pricing, Generation Economic Development, Energy Procurement & Management, Regulatory & Legal Consulting, Electric Industry Training and Electric Industry Data.

The Role: This position requires advanced statistical modelling skills and extensive electricity market knowledge to translate complex environmental, macro and micro economic factors into actionable intelligence that EDCA can distill to clients in order for them to maximize the electricity value chain.

Major Responsibilities:

Demonstrate advanced proficiency in analyzing the Alberta electricity and natural gas markets

 Act as resident expert on topics such as market participant portfolio and generation asset bidding behavior, performance characteristics, and drivers for change in supply and demand balances

 Provide cogent assumptions about future market behavior that will be used as inputs to multiple corporate-wide models, with accountability for providing analysis of model outputs to senior management / clients

 Identify and quantify market risks through statistical Monte-Carlo or deterministic scenario and sensitivity analysis

 Undertake high quality ad-hoc analysis on a short turnaround schedule

 Monitor key AUC regulatory proceedings and provincial/federal environmental regulations in order to create actionable market intelligence

 Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify, communicate, and develop solutions for wholesale business issues, processes, and operations

Experience and Qualifications:

If you have the following experience, we would like to hear from you:

 5+ years quantitative experience with a focus in statistical modelling and advanced math

 Knowledge of Alberta electricity (energy and ancillary services) and natural gas markets, including market evolution

 Extensive expensive with Excel/VBA, SQL and an object-oriented programming language such as C++, C# or Python

 Experience with electricity forecasting software such as AURORAxmp

Salary - CAD $80,000+ negotiable, based upon experience.
