The materials produced at our quarries, pits and asphalt plants are used to build Ontario’s infrastructure which is the foundation of our economy – including roads, bridges, underground infrastructure, sidewalks, houses, schools and hospitals.

Quality Control Technician

We’re looking for a new quality control technician to work at our main site in Kemble, Ontario.

Your goal in this position is to sample and test aggregate products and communicate results to the rest of the quarry team. Your work means we ship a high-quality product every time, and is essential to our and our customers’ success.

In this role, you’ll work closely with our production supervisors and team to affect positive change. You’ll get exposure to many parts of the business and quarry operation, which is a great way to learn and set the stage for a terrific career at Walker. In fact, many former techs have gone on to hold supervisory positions with us.

Major (Primary) Responsibilities:
Gathers production and shipping samples from various locations in the quarry to ensure numerous random samples are tested.
Performs standardized laboratory tests for product characteristics, while complying with industry standards, to ensure product specifications and quality control values are maintained.
Inspects production product handling and shipping procedures to ensure there is no negative effect on product quality. Notifies production personnel and/or supervisor if proper procedures are not followed.
Maintains the laboratory to ensure the equipment is clean and maintenance is performed to assist in the accuracy of testing.
Enters daily gradation and physical test results of various aggregate products produced at the quarries to maintain a database of testing results.
Produces various summaries and reports for supervisors, customers and managers to highlight product quality control.
Provides customers with information to assist in solving product performance problems as necessary and refers to the appropriate personnel as required.

This position requires a demonstrated degree of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize daily tasks. Proficient level of courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with others in every day working relationships.

Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details, makes sure work is done correctly and thoroughly. Keeps accurate records.
Organized and methodical to structure workflow and follow specific procedures
Basic computer software skills track data and produce documents and reports as required.
Business acumen - full understanding of quality standards relative to product quality.
Able to work with limited supervision and to take discretionary action as required
Communicates with clarity, verbally and in one on one or group situations, or over the telephone
Communicates well in writing by composing clear documents; facility with editing and/or proof-reading is required
Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with clients, vendors and associates including senior management
Proactive - anticipates and initiates action to meet needs
Adaptable - able to work with diverse personalities and styles


Any experience in aggregates and/or quality control is an asset
CCIL certification would be an asset
College or technical school is an asset
