LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

As an LABORATORY TECHNICIAN, your main responsibilities are:
Performs analysis on both water and solids samples.
Performs sample preparation, water extractions, humidity cell maintenance & operation, static tests and analyses using manual and automated techniques including pH, conductivity, Eh, acidic, alkalinity and kinetic reporting.
Assists with the set-up of lab tests for the analysts as necessary.
Meets quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
Identifies and communicates procedural non conformances with the lab manager.
Employs proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
Provides general lab support.
Provides manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays.
Adheres to Maxxam Code of Ethics Policy.
Supports and complies with all Maxxam policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
Participates, when requested in department and health and safety meetings.
Participates, when requested in internal and external audits.
Keeps work area clean, neat and organized.
Maintains training records and relevant qualifications.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned by Senior Staff.

You are the ideal LABORATORY TECHNICIAN if:
Minimum Diploma from a Technician Institute (chemistry preferred) or post secondary school education with at least 1 year laboratory experience.
Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Proficient in LIMS would be considered an asset.
Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
Ability to be adaptable and flexible to a changing environment.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Detail orientated & good record keeping skills.
Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions.
Ability to learn quickly.
