Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Merchandise Assistant to join our Product Management team based out of our Toronto office. This is a contract position to cover a maternity leave.

The successful candidate would be responsible for working alongside the Product Manager to manage the assigned category(ies)/account(s) from conception through to completion. As a dedicated team player, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders including designers, packaging, factories, sales and Asia team.

Experience in product management and/or the insulated products, handbags, luggage, housewares and/or related industry is ideal but not required. Most importantly, the ideal candidate should have passion for working collaboratively, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Working very closely with the team, to manage the applicable product management category/account listing/program from conception through completion
  • Create and review product line up charts, specification sheets and product matrices while ensuring complete accuracy of product information
  • Maintain strong knowledge of product lines and ensure systems and materials are kept up-to-date, including but not limited to detailed customer files/quote/submission sheets for all programs, costings, etc.
  • Communicate with factories to ensure timely quote delivery, and resolve any/all other product issues
  • Follow-up on assigned program progress i.e. follow up with factories on sample status and track sample shipments closely
  • Review and file new designs and maintain accurate records of all revisions
  • Liaise with various departments on a regular basis as required
  • Promptly generate correct item numbers, item UPCs, case UPCs and style numbers in accordance with established procedures
  • Responsible for all pre and post sales appointment needs for applicable items
  • Record meeting notes, respond to all emails on a daily basis, and other administrative tasks as required
  • Help maintain the product showroom
  • Provide training and vacation back-up to other staff members as required from time to time
  • Other duties as required

A Little About You..

  • At least one (1) year of product management/development related experience
  • University Degree or College Diploma in business, marketing, merchandising or related program
  • Highly proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience dealing with Asian factories considered a strong asset
  • Working knowledge of Great Plains and Tops Pro an asset
  • An excellent communicator, both oral and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with internal and external contacts alike
  • Proven multi-tasking capabilities with a high level of accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to handle high volume and pressure with the ability to prioritize and successfully achieve deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • A team player with a positive attitude who is flexible regarding change in a fast-paced work environment and job requirements
  • Reliable and self-motivated and capable of working without close supervision
  • Willing to work overtime when necessary from time to time (i.e. before a big product launch)
