GuySpace is a cyberviolence prevention program for boys and gender non-conforming youth aged 11-16. This youth-led program and its discussion topics are adaptive, and will depend on the interests and learning styles of participants. GuySpace intends to provide a safe space to facilitate these discussions while helping participants build skills, increase awareness, foster resilience, and encourage collaboration.

GuySpace Facilitators will be responsible for moderating youth-led discussions by providing a safe non-judgmental space and providing support where necessary.

Duties will include:

  • using an open-minded approach to working with youth;
  • planning and delivering programs at junior high schools;
  • supporting youth to take leadership roles within their programs;
  • assisting with Youth Advisory Council events including peer leadership training and other community projects;
  • ongoing documentation and reporting; and
  • assisting with other tasks pertinent to the YWCA youth programs as required.

The Facilitator contributes to the advancement and achievement of the YWCA mission, vision, values and guiding principles.

Qualifications and Experience

You have experience working with youth programming and a knowledge of and interest in youth engagement and community development strategies from an equitable and anti-oppressive perspective. You also have experience working with diverse youth in a facilitator capacity. You have strong organizational skills, are reliable and dependable and are comfortable in a leadership role. If you are pursuing further education in Social Work, Education, Child and Youth Studies, Health Promotion, Gender Studies, International Development Studies or a similar field, this position might be a great fit for you. Access to a reliable vehicle is required. First aid certification and willingness to provide a current Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks are required.

This is a part-time, contract position (without benefits)

Part-Time ($15/hour). Each session would equal 3 hours of work and would take place during the lunch hour at a variety of schools so availability between 12pm and 1pm are a necessity. Facilitators would be able to work 3-15 hours/week depending on how many schools they are willing to commit to. Duration -October, 2019 – mid-June, 2020 – depending on school calendar. Facilitators report to YWCA Halifax’s Open New Tab Team Lead.
