This Canada Summer Jobs position is open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who will be between 19 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.

The Gleaning Abundance Program (GAP) organizes volunteers to harvest fruit from local trees and distribute it to community organizations. Our Social Enterprise Program uses a portion of this fruit to process into frozen fruit bars as a source of income to help sustain our programs. The Social Enterprise Program Assistant will work closely with the SocialEnterprise Program Coordinator and the KFPC Food Action Lead to complete the duties listed below. Work will be based out of the KFPC Office at Mount Paul Community Food Center (140 Laburnum St).

  • Assist Social Enterprise Coordinator with organization of fruit processing sessions, including assembling equipment, recruiting and overseeing volunteers, and keeping accurate records and ensuring all sessions are conducted according to our Food Safety Plan
  • Ride a bicycle with a trailer to special events around the city and sell frozen fruit bars
  • Help plan, organize, and facilitate food literacy workshops
  • Assist with GAP harvests and deliveries as needed
  • Contribute to the KFPC web presence by taking photos during activities and posting on social media

Skills and Qualifications

  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean Criminal Record check
  • Current Food Safe certification
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Computer/internet competence and familiarity with social media
  • Ability to assess situations, identify problems and take initiative
  • Ability to work independently and with people of all ages (children, seniors, special needs)

This position will require some evening and weekend hours. Preference will be given to someone with kitchen experience or experience working with children in a teaching and learning environment. As we have two summer positions available, please specify clearly which position you wish to apply for.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Salary: $18.00 /hour
