Reporting to the Dean, Innovation, and supported by external research funds, the Research Project Manager is responsible for managing and/or leading a range of applied research projects and related activities, through close liaison with CMI Director, as well as additional faculty Principal Investigators, and staff. Areas of responsibility include business outreach for project development, funding generation, financial and human resources (project team) management, quality assurance, project management and client and supplier relationship management.

Specific Responsibilities
Managing/Leading and participating where appropriate in the full applied research process, from start to finish, in compliance with all College and Research Office strategies, policies and procedures;
Ensuring that projects are conducted ethically, effectively, efficiently and to the standards of the College and any funding agency involved in the projects;
Providing leadership and direction to the team (Technology Specialist and other CMI staff);
Optimizing team performance and professional capacity through effective recruiting, workflow/project planning, employee development and performance management;
Managing project budgets in cooperation with the CMI Director and Research Office financial administrators;
Ensuring projects are fully completed including final reports and invoicing to clients and funding agencies through coordination with the Research Office, Finance and Operations Manager, in fulfillment of all contract obligations;
Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures in the areas of: health & safety, human rights, equity, diversity, accessibility; also complies with collective agreements and terms and conditions of employment;
Actively marketing the College’s Research Vision to faculty, staff and students;
Participating in the collaborative development and implementation of CMI research policies and procedures aligned with those being developed and implemented by the Research Office;
Developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders including College personnel, industry, business, government, non-governmental agencies, community organizations, colleges, universities, research institutes, associations and funding agencies;
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Master of Computer Science degree (PHD preferred) or a related field of study along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in project management and applied research design and methodology (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience)
Background in CMI areas of focus (i.e., Machine Learning, IoT, AR/VR, and Wearable Computing) would be an asset
Knowledge of research funding sources and ability to influence stakeholders with whom he/she works closely with, but does not directly supervise
Product commercialization experience (asset)
Familiarity with ethical issues in research
Proposal writing experience
Strong team skills as either a team leader or a team member
Solid history of working with individuals and groups from the Post-secondary institution system, government and the private sector
Effective & efficient communication (oral, written, presentation) skills
Highly developed interpersonal skills; energizes and engages others
Self-directed, forward thinking
Collaborative, relationship building style, commitment to the team model of decision making and operations management
Excellent organizational and managerial skills; delegates effectively
Creative problem-solving capabilities; tolerance for complexity and ambiguity
Project Management Professional (PMP®) or similar designation is desired
Experience in taking product, service or process ideas and developing them to the point of implementation or commercialization is preferred
Some business training or experience is highly recommended
