Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory Approvals, the Environment Coordinator, Regulatory Approvals is responsible for coordinating regulatory approvals for operational, mine development, and water quality management projects across the Coal Business Unit (BU). They will also be part of a team that is responsible for implementing Social, Environmental and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) processes for projects within the BU.
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Work closely with mine operations, project teams, government agencies, and First Nations to coordinate schedules and priorities for the regulatory review of permitting projects
Maintain a central permit tracking list that is used by multiple internal and external parties, such as government agencies and First Nations
Be a key point of contact for the mine operations seeking information and guidance on obtaining regulatory approvals, such as water licensing, approvals for instream works, effluent (air, water, refuse) permitting, permitting under the Mines Act, licensing to allow tree clearing, notices of work for access, and drilling activities
Coordinate regular and ad-hoc meetings, engagement events internally with sites, and externally with government agencies and First Nations
Prepare status reports and schedule reporting materials
Implement and improve the Teck Coal Regulatory Approvals Guide and other continual improvement processes to support permitting processes
Prepare applications as needed, which may include working with consulting teams and coordinating baseline programs
Maintain a face-to-face presence at our mine sites for liaison, relationship building, and meetings
Degree or diploma in Forestry, Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
Minimum Three to five years of professional experience in environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field
Ability to effectively communicate with internal staff and external parties, and work with managers to identify and resolve issues
Experience in preparing or coordinating permitting applications in the resource development industry, or demonstrated similar work
Specific knowledge and experience with permitting under the following B.C. legislation is an asset: Mines Act, Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, and Forest Act
Skilled at using Microsoft Office Suite®, specifically Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Word
Experience with impact assessment work is an asset
Excellent organization skills and proactive work style
