Our LIFE program - Learning In a Fun Environment, is a continuing education program for students who have a developmental disability and are able to manage their own care, behaviours and transportation. Students focus on academics through an online literacy and numeracy program as well as develop life skills and vocational skills through community placements tailored to their skills and abilities. Our goal is to provide paid employment in their field of interest. Students are supported by a certified Teacher, Educational Assistant and an Employment Specialist

We currently have an opening for a permanent full-time OCT certified teacher within our LIFE program! This position is 37.5 hours/week – Monday to Friday 8am-4pm (with ½ hour lunch break)

You will be instrumental in the implementation and development of the daily programming for students which includes initial assessments, Individual Education Plans, community networking, progress reports and Individual Support Plans. The key deliverables are in collaboration with the educational assistant and employment specialist, Team Leader, Supervisor and Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 2-3 years teaching experience in the field working with individuals with developmental delays, autism, physical disabilities, dual diagnosis etc., or an equivalent combination.
  • OCT accreditation
  • Special education degree
  • Organizational skills to plan/schedule classrooms
  • Valid drivers license
  • Must have current valid CPR/First Aid training and CPI training.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Check

The following are also required for successful candidates:

  • Experience providing personal care for physically disabled individuals.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviours (autism support)
  • Written communication skills to complete forms and reports.
  • Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Organizing, planning, ability to lead, delegate and prioritize work.
  • Cooperation and respect for team members.
