The Humber’s corporate web presence consist of more than 100 integrated websites, more than 10,000 pages of content and attracts more than 1 million international and national website visits each month.

Humber’s websites are the primary communications vehicle for Humber recruitment and also support the daily function of many departments within the internal Humber community. Developing and maintaining all websites is key to achieving Humber’s first strategic goal of Managing Enrollment Growth. Over 90% of students use the web as their primary source of information. Humber’s employees use the website every day to fulfill their job function and to support this strategic goal.

The Senior Full Stack Developer is responsible for front and back-end web development with knowledge in all stages of software development with the ability to take a concept and turn it into a finished product.The role leads and communicates the technical and functional development of Humber’s web properties, leveraging their expertise and knowledge of web application architecture and development to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of Humber College through digital marketing initiatives.

Under the direction of the Manager, Marketing and Advertising, the incumbent will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting applications, services and websites from proof of concept through production, while adhering to industry best practices and Humber’s brand guidelines. The incumbent will use his/her knowledge of Humber’s recruitment process to integrate program, admission and enrollment information to ensure prospective students find the information they need. The incumbent will develop strategies in conjunction with the Registrars Office and Schools that will enhance the recruitment and conversion process with the primary goal being to increase the number of registered students. Other goals will be focused on providing the tools and services critical to students and staff. Activities include, but are not limited to:
Meeting with end-users to determine needs, timing and define scope of new projects, modules and enhancements;
Assessing and analyzing the requirements for new website features, functionality and application modules for design and implementation purposes;
Development and design overall architecture of the web application and websites;
Maintain quality and ensure responsiveness and optimization of web properties;
Translation of wireframes to visual elements;
Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application;
Data migration, transformation and scripting;
Maintain code integrity and organization, implementation of security and data protection;
Experience with back-end programming languages (i.e. PHP, Node.js, etc.);
Knowledge of code versioning tools like Git; Ability to implement automated testing platforms and unit tests;
Management of hosting environment, including database administration and scaling an application to support load changes;
Provide technical support to maintain existing corporate websites and applications, including 24/7 operations and emergency response capabilities;
Researching and recommending new applications and features;
Updating content;
Troubleshooting complex web application issues and tracking and monitoring the resolution of reported issues consultation; and
Resolving performance and related website issues.
Utilizing third party systems based on available APIs (Application Program Interface) The incumbent must be able to identify and develop new features and suggest innovative applications that demonstrate Humber’s leadership in web communications and advance the institution’s global web presence. The incumbent will conduct independent research and will be familiar with the most advanced web technologies within the industry. The incumbent will provide competitive intelligence, best practices, and issue resolution to website owners. The incumbent will be familiar with Content Management Systems (CMS) and in particular have proven abilities in the Drupal CMS and other platforms. The incumbent’s knowledge of current trends and experience in the web environment will make him/her a key player in developing and maintaining Humber’s web strategy, including the addition of mobile and social media capabilities.

The incumbent will also work as a consultant to internal customers to help them design, develop and build their website(s) according to their unique needs. By working as a consultant the incumbent is responsible for:
Preparation of project plans, critical paths, budget;
Content mapping; Design and development plans;
Back-end applications and databases;
Assessing and choosing the appropriate technology to meet the needs;
Translating customer needs into fully functioning websites; and
Ensuring that departmental websites comply with Humber IT, brand standards and meet AODA requirements


The successful candidate will posses a 3 year diploma/degree preferably in Computer Science, Web Development or Multimedia Design and Production
along with 5 years experience in designing, developing, and maintaining websites to W3C standards. In addition the successful incumbent will have experience with: content management systems; website management and design fundamentals; fluency in web languages and platforms (JavaScript, Adobe Web Suite Premium, PHP, MySQL, AJAX, CSS, Node.js, third party service APIs, etc); proven experience in Drupal CMS; audio and video optimization for the web; development of web proposals for clients; web metric implementation and analysis; working in a large scale team environment, as well as work on projects independently. The successful incumbent will be knowledgeable of accessibility standards WCAG 2.0 (AODA) and will have excellent report preparation skills. Must possess good written, oral and presentation skills.
