Pest Control Operator / Labourer II

Is your specialty Landscape Pest Control? We are looking for a qualified individual with a Landscape Pesticide Applicator License to perform services essential to Edmontonians' enjoyment of the outdoors!

During the summer and shoulder seasons you will work as a Pest Control Operator performing the following duties:
Assign, supervise and participate in applying pesticides to public parks, boulevards, and natural areas
Participate in the control of noxious weeds and other unwanted vegetation found on city parkland
Investigate and attempt to resolve complaints concerning any of the above vegetation management issues
Maintain daily chemical record sheets listing what pesticides were used, areas treated and the types of pests encountered
Conduct general surveys and investigate areas to determine noxious weed locations, infestation levels and the effectiveness of control programs; prepares reports and maps which outline survey results
Perform all forms of weed control as required (hand pulling or mechanical)
Pre-treatment and post-treatment site inspection, monitoring and evaluation
Set up, tear down and calibrate all spray equipment to ensure the proper rate of application
Perform minor maintenance/repairs on assigned equipment
Mentor and coach staff in the field and may have an opportunity to act in the Licensed Crew Leader role as required
Perform related duties as required
Primarily in the winter months you will work as a Labourer II performing the following:
Perform manual labour for Active Pathways Snow Removal Program which may include but is not limited to: the operation of powered equipment and John Deere 72” with a broom; shoveling and maintaining parks and facilities for public access
Adhere to existing standard operating procedures, environmental and safety programs, as well as conducting
Field Level Risk Assessments daily Inspect and document all equipment is safe to use before starting task
Provide customer service and communicate with the public and other employees professionally and respectfully
Other related duties as required

Qualifications :
Completion of grade 10
1 year of experience in pesticide application and related pest control work, including demonstrated supervisory potential
Landscape Pesticide Applicator Certificate as issued by the Province of Alberta is required
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Knowledge of City of Edmonton Parks Operations hazard assessment and controls, proper pesticide use and current industry standards
Ability to use and perform minor maintenance of spraying equipment
Ability to make decisions, assign tasks and supervise; and coach and mentor the work of subordinates
Ability to maintain records and prepare written reports
Ability to work in a team environment

Hours of Work:
Summer: 40 hours per week
Winter: average of 80 hours per week bi weekly, rotating shifts to provide 24 hour, 7 days per week coverage is a requirement of the position
Successful incumbent will start as a Pest Control Operator in April, 2020

Labourer II - $22.815 - $30.384 (Hourly); $47,637.72 - $63,441.79 (Annually)
Pest Control Operator - $32.069 (Hourly); $66,960.07 (Annually)
