BCIT’s in-house Auxiliary Trades Support is looking for high caliber, dynamic, and flexible Auxiliary Carpenters who have the skills and abilities to work within the Institute in a variety of temporary assignments. Auxiliary placements may vary from a few hours to many months in duration (with no guarantee of ongoing work). Due to the varying demand for services, there may be breaks between auxiliary assignments. As such, flexibility and adaptability are crucial to being successful in the role.
The successful candidate will carry out a wide variety of planned maintenance activities and will be responsible for responding to emergency service requests. Maintenance duties include repairing and installing architectural and structural building systems, as well as furniture, furniture locks and filing cabinets. Shift work may be required periodically.

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prioritizing and responding to trouble calls which are often of an emergency nature; this includes troubleshooting difficult-to-identify problems on a wide variety of systems.
Establishing priorities and requirements for the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Plan.
Conducting preventative maintenance on multiple systems which are interconnected.
Estimating labour and materials for renovations, upgrades and projects.
Communicating with internal clients and external contractors.
A valid Trades Qualification or an Interprovincial Trades Ticket (Journeyperson status) plus technical education and/or certifications in the relevant building trades industry.
Two years’ general trades experience plus up to four years’ current and relevant experience in the building trades industry.
Ability to assess blueprints and make recommendations for specific trade requirements is an asset.
Must be able to work independently.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve related issues in conjunction with the assigned level of skill, ability and education.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to maintain top quality customer service standards.
Willingness to maintain currency in the field and learn on the job is essential.
Basic computer training and experience is required.

Salary Range Pay grade 9, step 4; $33.79 per hour
Additional Salary Information
Additional 50 cents per hour in lieu of benefits.
Additional 6% in lieu of vacation pay.
