The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Vancouver Island (BGCCVI) is Vancouver Island’s largest childcare provider and is trusted by more parents than any other childcare provider. The BGCCVI is a registered Non-Profit organization and charitable organization serving over 1000 children, youth and families in Comox, Courtenay, Lantzville, Nanaimo and Ladysmith through enriching programs in 14 club locations.

We are currently undergoing a period of expansion and significant change and are consequently looking for a Parenting Programs Facilitator.

As caring adult role models, BGCCVI staff build healthy, supportive relationships with children and youth, which in turn can positively influence the life path they choose.

This is a temporary position (0-20 hours per week) with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2020. Reporting to the Director of Integrated Child, Youth and Family Services, the Parenting Program Facilitator is responsible for:

  • Makes arrangements for facilities and materials necessary for group sessions.
  • Plans sessions in a consultative process with participants. Conducts sessions, acting as a facilitator or co-facilitator not a counselor.
  • Conducts program evaluation and obtains participant feedback on group effectiveness, material presented, facilitation style, etc. Reports any difficulties to supervisor.
  • Maintains all necessary participant and program reports and statistics.
  • Maintains up-to date knowledge of community resources in order to provide program- related information to participants. Maintains contact with participants between sessions in order to provide follow-up support if necessary.

The successful candidate will meet the following position requirements:

  • A diploma, Bachelor or Master’s degree in social service/human services or a related field, or the equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience in group facilitation within a social services setting.
  • A basic comprehensive understanding of a wide variety of topics in the field of family life education, including adolescent development, attachment theory, compassionate communication and self-care.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Salary: $20.57 per hour

Location: Courtenay, BC
