The Meadows of Aurora is a Christian Lifestyle community of aged 65+ individuals residing in either Independent Living, Assisted Living or Memory Care. Position: Community Event Co-Ordinator - Independent Living
Purpose: Position is responsible, in co-operation with other staff and team members, for providing a socially stimulating environment, enrichment experiences and activity programs which enhance the community.
Reporting to: Director of Resident Services
Qualifications: Post-secondary diploma or degree in the social sciences, community studies, recreation or equivalent in gerontology or activation.
Extensive computer skills in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint. (Canva and Calendly knowledge is an asset).
Must have a pleasant, cheerful, energetic, calm manner and a positive attitude toward residents and staff.
Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must be a self starter with organizational abilities, well motivated with creative ideas, a caring person who seeks to maintain the dignity and integrity of the residents.
A mature perspective on and appreciation for recent history, culture, the arts, lifestyles of the current resident population.
Demonstrates a comfort with the Christian philosophy of the community and will assist to meet the spiritual needs of the residents.
Creative and artistic skills in music, crafts and photography are a benefit.
Able to develop a rapport with seniors.

a. Assess the needs of the residents in respect to their own interests and abilities in the participation of an activity program.
b. Plan and implement the varied activities of Independent Living, including planning and executing activities and outings for residents, developing relationships with them and welcoming new residents.
c. Encourage residents to become involved and assist with the facilitation of resident-run programs.
d. Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating programs both in and out of the facility such as trips, open houses, family night, craft sales, etc.
e. Participate in creation of a socially stimulating environment through seasonal decorations, parties, etc.
f. Planning the activity calendar/newsletter and scheduling various activities.
g. Supervise assigned students and volunteers (where applicable) with guidance from the Director of Resident Services.
h. Communicate effectively and appropriately in both verbal and written formats with Director of Resident Services and other Community Life staff regarding shared programs or specific concerns relating to the residents.
i. Problem solves effectively and positively with residents, members of the team and all staff.
j. Comply with the safety regulations and policies of the home and the activity department. Ensure responsibilities for health and safety are met.
k. Maintain and update daily/weekly/monthly advertisements for upcoming programs (digital screens, memos, posters, etc.)
l. Acquire birthday certificates for residents via correspondence with municipal, provincial, and federal government.
m. Assist Director of Resident Services with monthly calendar deliveries to some residents in the community.
n. Actively participates in fire alarms and drills.
o. Able to work evenings and weekends.
p. Perform other duties as assigned.
q. Will have committee involvement.
Hours: Weekdays: 8-4pm/12-8pm – must be available to work some weekends.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $24.00 per hour
