Underground Backfill Specialist
As a member of Technical services and Mineral Resource Management team, the successful candidate will report to the senior ground control engineer and work a 5:2, 4:3 roster. This role will require an individual who is safety driven and safety conscious, and capable of working with a diverse team of technical services staff, underground and mill operations personnel. The successful applicant will work to optimize the paste backfill system through improvements to rheology, reticulation, QA/QC and backfill strength design.
Proven commitment to workplace safety and demonstrate safety leadership
Participate in projects to optimize and expand paste backfill distribution infrastructure, and to implement design of paste backfill barricades accommodating continuous pouring where feasible.
Ensure quality control and quality assurance programs are maintained as per the ground control management plan.
Update site standards and procedures related to paste backfill as required.
Provide guidance to the technical services team related to design strength of cemented paste backfill for appropriate mining methods and stope sequencing.
Collaborate with key mining department and mill operations personnel to troubleshoot challenges with the paste backfill system ensuring appropriate rheology, composition, and flushing occur to prevent blockages.
Preferred qualifications include:
Bachelor of engineering (Mining)
Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an underground mining environment with design knowledge of cemented paste backfill.
Experience with mining software (Deswik and Vulcan) would be highly regarded
Experience with in-elastic numerical stress modeling
Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Valid driver’s license required
Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a team environment technical and operations personnel
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Organized, motivated self-starter with high standards expected of themselves and others
Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced mine production environment.
