Your Challenge

Exp’s Burnaby office is currently seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician to join their team. Reporting to the Geotechnical Discipline Manager, the successful candidate will be joining a well-established and diverse engineering group in Western Canada poised for growth and challenging opportunities well into the future.

Your Responsibilities

  • Compile utility information and obtain permits for field investigations
  • Soil logging during geotechnical drilling
  • Described and classify soil types in accordance with ASTM and Canadian Foundation Engineer manual
  • Transcribe soil logs using gINT
  • Pile inspections
  • Demonstrate a “Safety-First” focus and maintain a high standard of work
  • Perform laboratory index testing, including moisture contents, proctor tests and sieve analyses
  • May be required to do laboratory Consolidation Testing
  • Perform field soil compaction testing with soil density gauge
  • Monitor the placement of soil and granular materials and carry out compaction testing
The Skills, Knowledge, and Ability We Seek

  • 1-2 full construction seasons of relevant work experience
  • Have training in soils description and identification
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve soil, granular and asphalt problems while on construction sites
  • Able to read drawings and specifications
  • Able to discuss site issues with consultants and contractors
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write clear field reports and make recommendations
  • A strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must have own vehicle and appropriate insurance coverage to travel to construction sites
