Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Community Mental Health and Addictions (MHA), the psychologist works closely with the other members of the Specific Care Clinic team to provide clinical services that are consistent with the clinic’s mandate and role to support patient-focused goals and objectives. As part of the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA), the MHA specific care teams have a dual function. Teams provide a more intensive interdisciplinary treatment approach to a smaller number of our most ill children and youth presenting with neuropsychiatric disorders which are highly complex or treatment resistant. The teams also provide clinical training and supervision to clinicians involved in a six month training placement. The ASD specific care team provides consultation and treatment for children and adolescents with a documented, formal diagnosis of autism and severe co-morbid mental health and/or addictions symptomatology causing moderate to severe levels of distress and impairment. The inter-professional team is currently comprised of two psychiatrists (0.4 FTE each), 0.2 psychologist, 0.5 social worker and 1.0 youth care worker. Opportunities exist to participate in program development, quality improvement initiatives, specialty clinic evaluation and program-wide education initiatives including leading and participation in capacity building initiatives and supervision sessions across the outpatient clinics. The team accepts referrals within the MHA Program and all referrals are made through the IWK MHA Central Referral service. This long term assignment is open to any Psychologist employed in the IWK Mental Health and Addictions Program. Successful candidates must be able to participate on the designated ASD Clinic day (TBA).
