Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, and working under minimal supervision, the Networks & Systems Analyst is a member of a team responsible for installing, maintaining and administering College-wide systems: data, video and voice communications infrastructure; physical, virtual and cloud servers and services; data storage and backup; e-mail; and IT management tools. The Networks & Systems Analyst applies proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate and resolve issues directly or indirectly affecting the above systems. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Configure, support, administer and maintain the physical, virtual and cloud server infrastructure and server-based services and applications.
2. Maintain and troubleshoot the NIC network and its logical and physical infrastructure.
3. Administer the NIC Active Directory infrastructure and related services.
4. Design, test, implement, monitor and document security procedures on servers and network hardware.
5. Take responsibility for server and system backups, disaster recovery and site recovery processes and procedures.
6. Support the College-wide video and voice communications hardware, software and Unified Communications integrations including call distribution services.
7. Setup, maintain and operate College-wide printers and multi-function devices.
8. Responsibly and clearly interpret and appropriately communicate complex information and situations.
9. Maintain technical currency in technologies supported by NIC IT.
10. Interact with vendors and contractors for transfers of knowledge.
11. Provide an escalated level of support to the Information Technology Department and all College employees which may include desktop systems.
12. Present features and operations of implemented technologies and products at a technical level to team members and a more generalized level to the College Community.
13. Perform other related duties as required.
Required Education & Experience
1. Two-year Diploma program in a relevant Computer Technology program with an emphasis on the design and administration of Network Operating Systems and the design and implementation of Networks and Systems hardware and infrastructure.
2. At least one, relevant, current, advanced-level, industry certification such as MCSE or equivalent.
3. Three years of directly related experience acquiring detailed knowledge in the administration and management of Network and Server systems infrastructure
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
1. Detailed knowledge/experience of the Microsoft Enterprise suite of server technologies, including but not limited to Exchange, Skype For Business, Active Directory, ADFS, System Center Suite, Hyper-V, Scale-out File Server, Azure, RDS, and PowerShell.
2. Strong practical knowledge and experience with SAN storage and backup/business continuity practices.
3. Excellent conceptual and practical understanding and experience of networking including extensive experience with switches, firewalls and wireless.
4. Working knowledge of identity and authentication protocols.
5. Experience with Enterprise-level telephone infrastructure and/or Unified Communications.
6. Knowledge of good security practices.
7. Self-motivated and directed with solid time management and organizational skills including the ability to establish priorities with minimum supervision and under workload, timeline and budgetary constraints.
8. Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently.
9. Ability to locate, understand and synthesize technical information from a variety of sources to solve technical problems.
10. An understanding of the possible impact to the College and its users of change and the responsibility to ensure proper due diligence is carried out before implementation.
11. Excellent human relations skills, a strong customer service attitude and the ability to effectively communicate complicated technical ideas in user-friendly language.
12. Ability to plan, implement and guide projects with a College-wide scope.
13. Strong understanding of the department's goals and objectives.
14. General technical knowledge of programming and databases is an asset.
15. Ability to move, carry and install equipment in locations which may be physically restrictive and according to WCB standards.
16. Ability to keyboard with a high degree of accuracy.
17. A valid Driver's License is required.
