Job Description

The candidate will work on major brownfield and greenfield projects to provide electrical engineering expertise. To provide global technical leadership in electrical engineering; participate in business and / or project planning on key projects by providing technical and cross-functional expertise. Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization. Provide continuous improvement within electrical and instrumentations engineering fields across all Kinross sites. The role will report to the Director of Global Electrical Engineering, and work closely with the EPCM consultants, other corporate engineering staff, members of the Owner’s teams, and Site operations.

Job Responsibilities

Lead key technical projects requiring electrical engineering input/oversight, including defining and achieving project goals, anticipating and minimizing risks, project management, managing resources and EPCM consultants

Review project documents (policies, standards, specifications, drawings, data sheets) related to electrical, instrumentation and control systems to assure they meet project and Kinross objectives

Review cost estimates for electrical, I&C prepared by EPCM consultants.

Assist commercial teams with technical support in procurement related to electrical packages

Interface with the Site Operations teams

Seek and implement opportunities to add value to the project

Support in construction and commissioning of projects (short term visits)

Collaborate with cross functional teams; influences senior management decisions that have an impact on business decision; and influence others to achieve project goals often without direct authority

Acting as an advisor/mentor to more junior team members

Prepare business cases, capital costs and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates

Take coordinator role in construction and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation and control systems

Acts as a change agent for areas related to specialized area, including assessing readiness to engage in change efforts and designing and executing change strategies and how they may affect Kinross, and make recommendations to Management

Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgement to interpret policy in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible

Applies theoretical concepts or original approaches to complete projects or assignments

Work is assessed based on attainment of business objectives and effectiveness of results

Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization

Directs the work of project teams with particular attention to collaboratively defining “fit-for-purpose” solutions

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

Formal professional designation in electrical engineering

Familiarity with the Instrumentation and control field

15 years of related work experience

Experience with sizing, selection, engineering, and installation of electrical systems in mining and processing plants

Experience managing EPCM firms, for projects of varying scope and complexity from planning to commissioning stages

Ability to understand the project business case, assess alternative technical strategies, conduct cost-benefit tradeoffs and then recommend a cost-effective solution

Ability to work independently as well as part of large multi-disciplinary teams

International experience in multiple regions

Project management and operational experience

Software: MS Excel, MS Word, MS Powerpoint; and preferably eTAP

Bilingual in Spanish or French an asset

Personal Attributes

Strong communications (verbal and written) and presentation skills – with Project team, Site staff and Management

Works well in a structured environment

Flexible

Able to travel internationally for short periods

Team player with proven ability in developing co-operative solutions within tight project schedules
