Reporting to the AVP, Finance and Administration, the Manager, Finance will lead the success of all finance initiatives for the Charity through the management of the day to day finance functions for Jumpstart and will be an integral member of the Jumpstart Charities Finance team.

What you’ll do

This position is responsible for the efficient performance of all financial functions for the Charity. The role provides long-term financial and operations planning, as well as prepares financial reports for internal management purposes, the Board of Directors and other stakeholders. The individual must be passionate about the charitable work of the Charity and support the core vision.

Direct and lead the team to ensure full cycle accounting processes are completed in a timely manner.
Mentor and manage two direct reports overseeing and monitoring daily transaction activity. Direct involvement in disbursement and revenue issues is essential.
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements including monthly financial statements and quarterly financial statements for the Audit Committee and Jumpstart Board of Directors in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP).
Responsible for revenue reporting to cross functional, fundraising and strategic marketing teams
Prepare reporting packages for various levels of government (federal and provincial funding, lottery and gaming, T3010 and HST) as well as ad hoc reports as required.
Assist in the development and implementation of sound corporate and not for profit financial management practices, including implementing and maintaining strong internal controls. Participate in the development of operational budgets, cash flow and financial forecasts. Monitor budgets, and identify disbursement and revenue challenges and opportunities.
Oversee the Charity’s information technology systems as they relate to the Finance function. Provide assistance and input into system integration with the Charity’s operations. Participate in the implementation of special projects and systems updates, working closely with Corporate IT staff and external consultants. Select, implement, document, and train staff on new finance software and technology as required.
Fund administration with emphasis on accountability to donors, government agencies and other stakeholders on the use of funds, according to funding specifications and the Charity’s priorities and direction.
Oversee the Charity’s investment matters, and make recommendations to the AVP, Finance & Administration on investing activity for the Charity.
Financial reporting contact for Corporate Employee Giving Campaign (E4J)

What you bring
Professional Accounting Designation
5+ years of hands on experience with full cycle accounting functions
Demonstrated experience in financial and business management, internal controls, cash management, forecasting, budgeting and reporting
Solid track record of performance as a people leader in coaching, mentorship and leadership
Excellent communicator including verbal, written and presentation skills
Ongoing knowledge of federal and provincial legislation, CRA practices and industry updates affecting charities is required
Excellent conceptualization, problem solving, and project management skills
Proven track record with the ability to synthesize data into understandable reports
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills is required
Experience with financial accounting systems required with a preference for experience with Financial Edge / Raisers Edge
Extremely organized, task oriented, thorough, and deadline driven; detail oriented but with the ability to see the ‘big picture’
Familiarity with Jumpstart is preferred
Experience with a not-for-profit or registered charity preferred
