Reporting directly to the Campus Director for staffing and operational issues, the Practical Nursing Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Practical Nursing Program to meet the educational requirements for students registered in the programs.


Assist in the interviewing and hiring of new practical nursing instructors
Take part in our program TEAMs and contribute to maintaining the curriculum for the betterment of the program

Monitor, orient, and assist in the evaluation of new instructors
Meet regularly with the Campus Director, keeping him/her informed of student processes and/or issues
Meet with practicum sites regularly
Assist in the interviewing process for potential practical nursing students
Act as a reference for students seeking employment
Assist the Campus Director with selecting new intake start dates
Assist students in preparing for the Canadian Practical Nursing Registration Exam (CPNRE)
Act as a campus liaison for the Practical Nursing Advisory Committee
Liaise with classroom and clinical instructors to problem-solve with students' issues
Serve as a support person for students, classroom/clinical instructors and preceptors
Secure Affiliation Agreements with practice education sites
Organize preceptorship placements for practical nursing students
Arrange all required HCA practice education placements (if applicable)
Maintain open communication with all PN Coordinators, PN Curriculum Developers, and participate in monthly teleconferences
Document accurately on decisions and actions; record details and maintain files
Ensure that all evaluations and documentations are completed and ready for compliance audits as scheduled
Organize and post lab schedule(s) for both PN and HCA (if applicable)
Ensure all supplies (uniforms, name tags, textbooks, resources, etc.) have been ordered and received
Assist in the evaluation of the Practical Nursing curriculum
Coordinate the data collection, summary and analysis for the purpose of reporting to the College of Licensed Practical Nursing
Utilize HSPnet for clinical placement planning

Qualifications and Education

Current practicing license as an LPN, NP, RN or RPN with one of the BC nursing regulatory Colleges (CLPNBC, CRNBC, OR CRPNBC)
A credential in adult education/equivalent or in-progress from an accredited post-secondary institution; to be completed within 2 years of hiring date
Three to five years of recent, relevant practice experience (equivalent to full-time hours per year where full-time hours are 1800-2000 per year). For Coordinator position—5 years nursing background, knowledge and experience
Other relevant undergraduate degrees or professional qualifications degrees may be considered to teach the following courses (i.e. being registered with the College of Pharmacists):
Pharmacology (e.g. undergraduate degree in pharmacy, two years of hospital pharmacy experience, registered with the College of Pharmacists of BC);
Professional communications (e.g. undergraduate degree in a Human Services field or discipline, or Counseling Psychology);
Anatomy and Physiology (e.g. undergraduate degree in biology, physiology, physician, or equivalent education and experience). Physicians may only teach Anatomy and Physiology


Ability to use the vocabulary of nursing
Understanding the clinical practice of nursing across the lifespan
Knowledge of the diverse organizational environments in which nurses and HCA’s practice
Ability to interpret learning experience needs of students and work with local instructional staff to troubleshoot and develop positive strategies to address such issues
Understand the educational experiences of student nurses and HCA’s
