Reporting to the Director, HR Services, the Manager, Total Rewards leads and manages the functional areas responsible for College compensation, pension and benefits and HR Records. The Manager provides internal consulting to senior management to facilitate planning, proactive decision making and management of the College’s total rewards package as well as to evaluate risk exposure. The Manager relies on the subject matter expertise of their direct reports to create integrated and innovative processes and programs. As a member of the HR Management team, the Manager understands the departmental goals, objectives and contributes knowledge, expertise and technical support which advance the strategic direction of the business.

Specific Responsibilities

Provides advice and guidance to senior management on total compensation strategies and decisions; provides operational advice on total compensation to department and academic managers;

Ensures compliance with collective agreements, terms and conditions of employment and employment legislation

Responsible for overall leadership, direction and integrated program management Compensation and Job Evaluation for Sheridan

Oversees the design, development and administration of progressive, equitable, competitive, legal and cost-effective total compensation and job evaluation programs to attract and retain talent

Audits total compensation practices and recommends changes for continuous improvement and enhancement of programs

Manages full-time Administrative increase process

Oversees pension and benefit administration policies /practices, including three collective agreements and one non-union group; Administers the various employee benefit programs with carriers including, but not limited to, life and health insurance, and disability plans.

Provides oversight of the absence summary process

Provides oversight of the administration of benefits for leaves, LTD and other employee status changes.

Provides continuous guidance, training and support to all HR and staff regarding group benefit programs and the CAAT Pension plan

Oversees HR Records function ensuring accuracy and integrity of HRIS master data (i.e. new hires, master data changes, terminations), records management, and ensuring transfer deadlines between HR and Finance (Payroll) are met.

Liaising with Sheridan’s Business Project Manager, HRIS, regarding systems and process changes impacting HR Records, Benefits and Compensation, including redesigning and implementing processes as necessary

Develops department’s operational plans and aligns resources to deliver on Totals Rewards programs/projects/priorities

Optimizes financial performance of the portfolio

Provides leadership in creating and sustaining an organizational culture that enhances learning and growth; Engages others in professional development and currency in their discipline, profession; Leads by example

Ensures that the operational assignments of team are carried out consistently with Sheridan policies and procedures.

Works collaboratively as a key member of the HR Management Team providing an effective service delivery model for the Human Resources function

Performs other projects and duties as assigned

The Successful candidate will possess a 4-year bachelor’s or a 3-year diploma with a post graduate diploma in Business, Finance or Human resources. With a minimum of 7 years of previous job-related experience. (Or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Prior HR management experience in a unionized environment. Including recruitment, selection, performance assessment and guidance of subject matter experts. Knowledge of payroll practices and reporting practices, experience with total reward best practices. Including audit, financial reconciliation and legislated statutory obligations. Experience with total reward best practices. Experience working with HRIS and applications. The following certifications are desired or preferred: Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)Certification and Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
