Swift current SPCA is looking for a part-time possibly full-time kennel attendant.
Working under the supervision of the shelters animal technician, kennel attendant will attend to all aspects of care and comfort of the pets at the SPCA animal shelter. A basic knowledge of animal behaviour would be an asset, but this can be learned on the job. All above applicant should have a genuine desire to nurture and Care for animals. The SPCA shelter maintains a high standards of hygiene and health protocols and work out of the kennel attendant is key component to keep our facility disease free. You will ensure daily care and comfort of their animals by:
Safely cleaning and sanitizing all shelter areas including kennels cages and runs or areas were animals spend time, according to the procedure and standards required. Ensuring each animal receives the daily food and water requires which often involves falling personalized feeding routines. Feeding animals when required especially cats grooming hair combing and nail clipping etc. Exercising animals as required, including walking dogs or changing do animals in the cat playroom. Reporting any abnormal behaviours of health issues to our senior staff. Handling sick or quarantine animals under the guidance of senior staff. Dealing with difficult cats or dogs being familiar with animal handling and restraint. Ensuring that laundry and dishes are process promptly everyday. Assisting and stocking food and or cleaning supplies as needed. Promptly reporting any repair, maintenance or supply need to senior staff. Lifting weights up to 55 lb. Remaining calm, alert, and patient in crisis or conflict.
The majority of your work will be accomplished in the morning, well the shelter is closed to the public. This is not a desk job! You will be standing, walking, bending and lifting in the course of the day. You'll work independently, but always as important member of a small team of dedicated animal lovers. Some interaction with a public will be required as you may be called upon to facilitate test drives or adoptions. Maintaining confidentiality about her animals and our clients is very important to all employees must sign a confidentiality form. You must have a high school diploma or equivalent Saskatchewan driver's license as well as your own transportation you must be able to work some weekends and holidays.
