Do you have a genuine interest in quality control? Are you someone who enjoys solving a different problem every day? Do you have an affinity for computers and software programs? Or maybe you’re a gamer looking for a way to “play” at work? If any of this sounds like you, please read on to learn more about this great opportunity at Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited.
CBN prints currency, passports and other secure documents for Canada and countries around the world. As an Automated Inspection Quality Control Technician, you will be on the quality front lines and operate state-of-the-art vision systems that inspect, and by extension protect, these critical products.
What’s in it for you?
In this position, you’ll helm a variety of these vision systems and find yourself challenged daily – the wide range of scenarios that occur within a production environment means that no two days are alike, and most of the vision system’s software gives you room to be creative as you trouble-shoot and solve problems.
Some of these vision systems are extremely complex, and the learning curve can be steep, but you’ll be surrounded by teammates who are supportive and happy to share their knowledge. You’ll find that the spirit of collaboration runs deep at CBN, and in this role you’ll work with a multitude of different departments, and in the process gain a broader understanding of our industry, priming you for growth if that is what you are after – which we hope it is!
What will you do?
As the newest member of our Vision Systems team, you will support operations by setting up, optimizing and maintaining the various automated inspection systems associated with our different print processes.
More specifically, you will:
Ensure the vision systems are modeled accurately and within defined parameters so outputs meet the required customer standard. You will do this by setting up the vision systems for new products based on/using specifications outlined by various internal stakeholders and Quality Engineers.
Implement model changes (adaptations) on the vision systems that accommodate quality considerations deemed acceptable/unacceptable by internal stakeholders and Quality Engineers and then risk manage those adaptations, confirming the adaptations achieve the desired impact.
Continually monitor the accuracy of all vision systems against established standards and adjust inspection systems as required to meet quality targets, auditing your work to ensure all adjustments deliver the anticipated results. You’ll troubleshoot as required, primarily by manipulating software to accommodate the need for changes when the current settings and defaults are unable to meet the required demands.
Maintain daily logs of all work, complete shift reports, inspection forms, model change forms, records of changes to adaptations, changes to tolerances, and training note records and ensure that all changes are communicated to the vision team and internal stakeholders.
Clean, calibrate and maintain the vision systems. You’ll follow the prescribed preventative maintenance program and perform 1st level maintenance on the vision systems.
Become a trusted internal Subject Matter Expert on our vision systems and identify opportunities for process improvements that will increase efficiency and effectiveness of the various vision systems.
What will help you succeed?
Our ideal candidate possesses a university degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Print Foundations or equivalent. That said, we are also willing to consider those who are simply technologically savvy (particularly when it comes to using various software programs), curious, and have an interest in quality!
