Position: Junior Site Supervisor (Large Loss)

Location: Coquitlam, BC

Status: Full-Time, Permanent

Job Summary

To assist and support the Large Loss Construction Manager and Site Superintendent with the day-to-day management of construction related projects including site visits, customer service, supervision, productivity and quality control. Projects must be completed on-time, on-budget and to established quality standards. Part of the role will include carpentry work or deficiency repairs or other hands on manual tasks such as site clean-up. The most important characteristic that you bring will be a can-do positive attitude to getting the job done to a high standard in a timely fashion.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under direction of Large Loss Construction Manager and Site Superintendent, assist in supervising large loss job sites including coordination of staff, sub-contractors, engineers, inspectors, etc.
  • Supervise and coordinate both Canstar production employees and subcontractors, and maintain cleanliness, organization and quality control on the job site
  • Represent Canstar on site and respond in a professional manner to queries from sub-trades or clients or other third parties such as City Inspectors or Architects or representatives from the insurance company
  • Supervise access to a site as key holder
  • Develop detailed materials list for assigned projects as per completed scope of work and approved budget
  • Assist with the development of project schedules and task timelines
  • Coordinate materials for delivery or pick up as required
  • Assist the Large Loss Construction Manager in developing request for proposals, selection of subcontractors, and completion of related documentation
  • Update and maintain communications with Construction Manager, Site Superintendent, Project Coordinator and Production teams
  • Meet with building inspectors as required
  • Obtain signed change orders for all work not on original estimate
  • Complete minor deficiencies to acceptable quality standards
  • Assist with on site clean-up and debris removal as required
  • Respond to emergency calls and follow-through to completion
  • Ensure all relevant safety standards are followed according to Canstar and WorkSafe BC requirements

Education and Experience

  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in construction and carpentry
  • Experience working with a variety of structures (residential, commercial, institutional)
  • Experience working in the insurance restoration industry is considered beneficial
  • Valid BC driver’s license with a satisfactory driver abstract.
  • Previous site supervisory and / or project management experience is an asset
  • Be able to read blue-prints accurately

  • Confidence and knowledge in construction safety practices
  • Be organised and time efficient and be able to deal with multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of and ability to complete carpentry duties
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Complete checklists, diagrams, and take photos
  • Good working knowledge of working with construction related machinery, equipment, chemical applications, practices and mechanical devices
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Organizational, negotiation and supervisory skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Intermediate typing and MS Office experience
  • Ability to use computer applications

Working Conditions

  • This position primarily reports out of the Coquitlam office but also travels to job sites within the Lower Mainland area
  • There is a considerable amount of driving required
  • Working hours will be dependent on project requirements but shifts will typically be 8 working hours per day between 7:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, with a half hour unpaid lunch break.
  • Overtime maybe required outside of these hours on occasions which may include evening, night or weekend working for emergency call outs or activities planned out of normal working hours
