Livingstone Range School Division invites applications for an Early Childhood Educator part time position. This position involves working with 3 to 6 year old children at Canyon Creek Early Learning Centre. Candidates must be willing to adapt to shift changes from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Canyon Creek Early Learning Centre is proud to be a $25 a day Day Care ELCC program, supporting the “Alberta Child Care Curriculum Framework”.

Our philosophy is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which is based on providing co-constructed learning experiences, unlimited means for children’s expression and fostering social relationships within the child population. Loris Malaguzzi is the creator of this approach and summarizes his work by stating that, “There are three teachers of children: adults, other children and their physical environment.”

The program will incorporate elements from nature, foster the opportunity to explore, create, discover, question, and most importantly PLAY.
The atmosphere will be one of comfort and establish trusting relationships to inspire children to direct their own learning through play, based on interests.
Our belief is that families are the most important teachers and caregivers of children. We will solicit families’ views and attempt to respect and value this input.

Qualifications:
Preference given to those possessing an Early Childhood Education Diploma or Certificate. Equivalency certification as a Child Development Worker or Child Development Supervisor with demonstrated experience in early learning and child care will be considered
1-2 years’ experience working with children aged 3-6 years
Hold valid First Aid Certification
Police Intervention Check with Vulnerable Sector required

Demonstrate competency in the following:
Knowledge and understanding of Early Childhood Development and the Alberta Child Care Curriculum Framework
Plan, carry out, and assess child-led, interested based programming in harmony with the centre’s philosophy
Ability to work cooperatively with other educators, facilitating a team environment through personal behaviour, work contributions and the sharing of expertise and knowledge
Must have the physical and mental capacity to work a full day with young children indoors and outdoors
Resilient and maintain a sense of humour when personal resources are challenged
Enthusiasm, patience, and a kind, gentle spirit for working and playing with young children.
Show positive behavior management strategies.
Take initiative and direction
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Following and implementing child care regulations and program policies and procedures
Ability to build relationships and have open communication with children, families and members of the learning team within a flexible environment
Showing commitment to the field through attending professional development and staff meetings
