Preferred Qualifications

The Database as a Service team is an integral part of Oracle Cloud Foundation Services (CFS). CFS provides a Micro-Services Platform (MSP), Operations Stack (OST), and Software Delivery as a Service (SDaaS) pipeline to support high margin, highly elastic, and highly available Software as a Service (SaaS) applications into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

Cloud Foundation Services (CFS) provides critical cloud services for multiple Oracle Global Business Unit applications. Oracle’s second generation Infrastructure as a Service, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), provides improved performance and reliability. Oracle GBUs already have over a thousand customers awaiting migration onto OCI in addition to new customer wins. Applications from Retail, Hospitality, Food & Beverage, Communications, Health Sciences, Financial Services, Construction & Engineering, and Utilities business sectors, require 24x7 support.

As a Database Migration DevOps Engineer in Oracle’s Cloud Foundation Services organization, you will work within a globally distributed world-class DevOps team to provide expertise in automation and Oracle Database administration for customer production systems in Oracle’s Next Generation Cloud known as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This is an exciting opportunity to join a new Agile organization in Oracle to work at the forefront of the industry on the latest Oracle Database releases and advanced features as part of Oracle’s cloud-first strategy. As a DevOps database engineer, this role will be responsible for developing and operating the automated tooling that is capable of migrating the Oracle Global Business Unit’s vast global footprint of databases into OCI. This mandate also includes closely partnering with our customers to ensure their migration operations have been successfully completed.

This role requires mastery of Oracle Database, and extensive experience in providing DBA operational support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness. You will provide accurate and creative solutions to customer problems to ensure customer success. You will be a member of a follow-the-sun global team that is spread across multiple timezones to ensure that support is always available during normal business hours to manage these databases. We are seeking a motivated team-player with good communication and organizational skills, the ability to work cross- functionally with a “can-do” and “do-it-right” attitude, a self-starter, and constantly thinking of ways to improve the work. We expect you to be a leading contributor individually and as a team member. The candidate must possess 7+ years of experience supporting relational databases as a DBA, with a focus in Oracle and related tools. BS or equivalent desired.

CNE’s primary support model is follow-the-sun, utilizing geographically diverse team members during normal working hours to provide support. CNE will strive to have subject matter experts distributed globally. In most cases this works well, but there are times where domain expertise is concentrated. With geographic diversity, countries and regions will have a broader array of holidays requiring a flexible support schedule. Additionally, most engineers globally have weekends off during normal working schedules and customer support is required during these periods. To provide the required support to Oracle customers, CNE will use additional compensation to cover extended business hours or on-call pay based on in-country laws and Oracle policy. In general, there will be a Primary and Secondary engineer designated in advance to provide coverage for select services. If numerous services are supported in a specific geographic region there may be more than one set of Primary / Secondary engineers selected. Software engineers and database administrators will engage in activities to restore services that are down or degraded. This may be as simple as running an existing script to restart a service, executing a standard operating procedure, or may require codes changes with review steps, integration, testing, and software deployments to restore a service to normal operation. In addition engagement with other Oracle development and support teams may be needed.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Design and develop automation tooling to migrate Oracle Databases.
Operate database migrations to onboard new tenants to Oracle’s new Cloud Native DBaaS platform.
Work closely with Product Development teams and provide feedback to improve product quality.
