The role and work of the Landbase Stewardship Section in the Omineca Region of the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) is to conserve and manage native species and ecosystems. The work involves a broad range of subject areas and functions including collecting and managing information on species habitats and ecosystems, species at risk, habitat conservation, management and restoration, and developing and implementing standards and guidelines related to these areas.
The Wildlife Habitat Specialist will work collaboratively with stakeholders and affected First Nations to implement Actions from the Province’s Together for Wildlife Strategy. Focus will primarily be on terrestrial biodiversity, habitat management and enhancement, involving ungulate and furbearer habitat management, including resource development activities, access management, habitat supply modelling, and vegetation ecology.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field.
Minimum four years of related experience (or an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered), such as leading project design and delivery, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
Registered (or immediately eligible*) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.
- Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the CAB. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
Experience assessing and monitoring natural resources.
Related Experience must include two or more of the following:
Experience providing scientific and regulatory advice to biologists, technicians, decision-makers and other agencies regarding biological impacts as a result of resource development;
Experience managing complex and sensitive natural resource management issues/projects in a team environment;
Experience in leading the exchange of scientific information with external and internal stakeholder groups;
Experience developing and/or implementing provincial, federal, and/or local government natural resource legislation and policy.
Preference may be given to applicants with the one or more of the following recent experience:
Currently Registered as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio).
Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
Experience in terrestrial habitat restoration planning, delivery and evaluation.
Publication(s) showing advanced scientific knowledge of a landscape ecology and/or ungulate or furbearer habitat.
Experience interpreting and applying BC’s natural resource management legislation and policy.
Experience working in collaboration with First Nations.
Experience modelling habitat suitability at the landscape scale; developing recommendations to improve the supply and effectiveness of wildlife habitat in the context of natural resource sector activities and wildfires.
- Recent is defined as experience gained within the last 5 years.
