The Social Innovation Institute is an affiliate of The Centre for Social Innovation, sharing its mission of inspiring, supporting and catalyzing social innovation to create a world where people and planet come first.

A registered charitable organization, SII’s helps organizations tackle systemic social, environmental and economic challenges. We do this by providing inclusive social innovation education and training, building connections, and providing affordable access to coworking spaces for those facing economic barriers. Our programs include Social Innovation Canada, the Social Innovation for Systems Change Curriculum and the Social R&D Ecosystem Mobilization Initiative.

About The Social R&D Ecosystem Mobilization Initiative

The Social R&D Ecosystem Mobilization Initiative is part of Employment and Social Development Canada’s Investment Readiness Program (IRP). The IRP was developed to accelerate the ability of communities to develop, finance, measure and scale new solutions to pressing social problems. The IRP aims to improve shared understanding of the most effective approaches to building the social finance ecosystem and to establish or expand initiatives that address ecosystem gaps.

The Social R&D Program will support Social Purpose Organizations (SPOs) in understanding and applying social R&D methods and approaches through an integrated program including: demonstration/keystone projects connected and supported by a network of Social R&D coaches; hosting communities of practice that build knowledge and strengthen relationships among practitioners and hosting a series of convenings bringing together IRP partners, practitioners, policy-makers, and corporate changemakers; the development of Social R&D knowledge products (i.e., tool kits, train-the-trainer workshops, case studies and research); and connecting and communicating innovators through a new digital platform and other shared storytelling opportunities. The project is a collaboration of The Social Innovation Institute and the McConnell Foundation, with additional support provided by Innoweave and the Centre for Social Innovation.

About the Program Manager

We’re looking for a dynamic Program Manager who is enthusiastic, organized and driven, a professional with a passion for this work and for our people and planet first values. As the Program Manager, you’ll report to the Chief Program Officer and work closely with the SII and CSI teams to help co-create and deliver strategies. You’ll be managing budgets and work plans across multiple projects, coordinating committees, preparing reports to funders and contributing your special talents to engage for impact.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

Provide overarching project management for the Social R&D Ecosystem Mobilization Initiative, identifying and supporting alignment across other SII programs and demonstration projects, including syncing project milestones, budgets and coordinating work plans among internal and external stakeholders;

Manage the Social R&D Initiative project budget; and

Manage a project administrator who will provide day-to-day logistic and other administrative support.

Committees, Networks and Partnership Building

Establish and support the Social R&D Advisory Group comprised of SII, CSI, McConnell and Innoweave representatives; and

Maintain communication with ESDC and other IRP partners to support the objectives of the program, including ensuring integration of Social R&D activities into the broader program design.

Communications

Incorporate Social R&D resources/knowledge products and insights/storytelling from the demonstration projects into the new SI Canada digital platform;

Manage the design and production of new Social R&D reports and knowledge products (e.g., toolkits, guides, learning modules) developed by a team of external consultants;

Coordinate translation of Social R&D resources; and

Develop a dissemination plan for project resources.

Fundraising and Reporting

Support fundraising to augment program initiatives where possible, including preparing project updates and overviews; and

Prepare quarterly reports to the McConnell Foundation tracking Social R&D activities and financials.

Support Program Delivery: Coaches, CoPs, Convening and Knowledge Products

Support the project team in completing a field needs assessment developed to better understand the unique challenges and needs and map ecosystem of actions and projects;

Preparing contracts and manage other logistics for team of consultants leading the development of Social R&D knowledge products/curriculum and other capacity building supports;

Coordinate and support the efforts of a Developmental Evaluation Specialist;

Support project team in delivering two Communities of Practice, two practitioner convenings and two roundtables, providing key project management support.

Research and Report Preparation

Prepare a project sustainability plan identifying future steps for addressing Social R&D needs and supports beyond the project; and

Prepare a final evaluation report.

Qualifications

+5 years of work experience in program design and project management, including managing budgets, work plans and reporting

Previous experience working in social and environmental fields or experience managing complex projects

Knowledge of social R&D, social innovation and social finance an asset

Minimum undergraduate degree

Exceptional organizational and project management skills

Solid communication and writing skills

Strong customer-service orientation

Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities

Fluency in both English and French is strongly preferred

Able to work Monday-Friday during daytime business hours (e.g. 9am to 5pm, or 10am to 6pm) and occasionally after hours. Some travel may be required. Please indicate your availability in your cover letter
