Reporting to the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library and working closely with colleagues who collect gift-in-kind for the Central Libraries, including the Slavic Resources Coordinator and the Director of the East Asian Library, performs activities related to the acquisition of materials, mostly gifts-in-kind to the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library and the special collections and subject/language area studies of the Central Library. Responsibilities may include: searching a wide range of on-line catalogues and databases to gather information for selectors; creating orders for selectors; assisting with the selection of material; receiving orders and initiating payment; overseeing the receipt and processing of gifts; providing workflow leadership; providing reference and other public services, providing back-up for other staff and performing other related duties. May occasionally be consulted regarding choice of suppliers. May handle all communication, oral and written, with publishers, book vendors and library staff handling selection. May also communicate with donors.
EDUCATION: University graduation required.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of related experience required; experience in an automated library environment required.
SKILLS: Working knowledge of the automated acquisitions system required; working knowledge of central financial system may also be required; working knowledge of library operations, services and collections required; working knowledge of searching, editing and creating bibliographic records required. Working knowledge of international cataloguing standards and MARC formats may be required. Working knowledge of internet searching may be required. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software required. Working knowledge of one or more languages other than English, some of which may be written in non-Roman alphabets and require transliteration, may be required.
