The Health & Safety Manager will ensure Titan Trailers safety culture. The Health & Safety Manager will recommend strategic direction and implement plans based on safety audit results, and will ensure that our policies and programs meet all legislated requirements. Responsibilities will include training employees in safety management best practices, assisting with hazard identification and the development of safe work procedures, identifying, developing and delivering safety training supplements, providing day-to-day guidance and advice. The Health & Safety Manager will also be responsible for providing field support for the safety requirements of significant projects.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Implement safety practices, policies and plans of the company.
Provide necessary training, leadership, organization and control to meet the company's goal of zero accidents.
Accept full authority to take any necessary action to maintain overall safe practices and procedures, including the authority to cease an unsafe operating procedure.
Implement information flow and data publications to ensure each level of management is properly informed of all activities relative to compliance with company safety policies and bulletins.
Ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by the company comply with safety and fire regulations and any other Provincial or Federal regulations.
Observe equipment and property conditions and report discrepancies to appropriate managers.
Orientation of new employees with safety instruction including, but not limited to WHMIS and Health & Safety Awareness for Workers.
Monitor and measure effectiveness of all safety programs and documentation required as part of compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Develop a team from within the company to ensure safety and compliance is observed at all levels.
Assist in the development of manuals, policies, and procedures for training and safe work practices
Conduct accident investigations as necessary to assist with liability determination, causation and instruction on how to avoid repetition
File requests for accident evaluations, ensuring unpreventable accidents are recorded as such wherever applicable.
Observe all company rules, policies and procedures with regards to Occupational Health and Safety, etc.
Ensure compliance with all governmental legislative requirements – HWIN, incl. waste manifests, waste recovery and disposal – NPRI annual reporting – familiarity with Toxic reduction Act
Ensure environmental compliance – wash bay, storm water management plan
Monitor MSDS – review new products – MSDS assessment
Monitor, record and report all Quality defects
Analyze results with charts etc., and make recommendations for improvement
Qualifications and Skills
Post secondary education in Health & Safety, or a related field - preferably a 3 year diploma or higher
Experience in the field of Occupational Health & Safety in a Manufacturing environment
Experience in research, analysis, interpretation and implementation of safety regulations, standards, and best practices as they pertain to Titan Trailers’ operations
Understand and have complete knowledge of all Federal & Provincial rules and regulations pertaining to safety codes and Occupational Health and Safety rules
Direct experience assessing training needs, creating training materials to fulfill those needs, and delivering the training with a demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others - Must maintain certification to provide training in Overhead Crane, Lift Truck, Elevated Work Platform, Fall Arrest and others as necessary.
Ability to create high quality presentations using a variety of technologies (e.g. PowerPoint, LCD projectors, etc.)
