As an integral member of the Laboratory management team, the SUPERVISOR CLINICAL LABORATORY - responsibility is for maintaining operations, quality and regulatory compliance of the laboratories at UHN, with a focus for Histocompatibility inclusive of flow cytometry and molecular techniques. These responsibilities include the daily operation of the laboratory including: directly supervising assigned laboratory personnel; coordinating and participating in the identification, development and delivery of professional development programs; facilitating access to educational programs by assigned personnel; maintaining professional development of self; assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures of the Clinical Laboratory, in consultation with the Medical Director and Laboratory Manager; ensuring adherence to Hospital policies and procedures within the laboratory; ensuring staff compliance with quality assurance requirements and standards; assisting with the preparation of capital budgets; maintaining responsibility for laboratory equipment and products; signing out reports, as required; observing Hospital and departmental policies and procedures; adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; performing cross-functional responsibilities, as required; performing other related duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Graduate of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) program preferred
Certification through CSMLS preferred
Advanced Registered Technologist (ART) designation in area of responsibility preferred
Completion of leadership courses required
Current General registration with the College of Medical Technologists of Ontario preferred
Seven (7) years current clinical laboratory experience required.
Experience in a tertiary care Hospital Service preferred
Minimum four (4) years supervisory/leadership experience in a clinical laboratory setting required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
Excellent organizational and time management skills required
Project management skills required
Knowledge of accreditation programs, and experience in assessments required
Strong decision making and problem solving skills required
Strong technical writing skills required
Demonstrated incident investigation and reporting skills required
Evidenced based knowledge and application of Canadian guidelines, standards and establishment license requirements
Quality manager courses preferred
