This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitative Services (Cumberland and Colchester), the Chronic Pain Mental Health Worker works as part of the interprofessional team of health professionals in the provision, planning, development, and evaluation of care for the Chronic Pain population and their families. Core responsibilities include:

Provides direct individual, family, and group treatment in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
Provides psychological assessments and testing as indicated for diagnostic clarification and treatment/management.
Maintains accurate, concise, and current files according to professional and organization \ service standards.
Provides psychological consultation, supervision, and training to other clinical staff and students, as requested.
Takes a leadership role in quality improvement opportunities within the team service as well as within the organization.
Supports and contributes to Psychology Discipline functions such as discipline meetings, supervision of students and candidate registers as appropriate.
Attends appropriate workshops and conferences to continue professional development annually (in keeping with professional standards).
Participates as a representative on service and organization \ community committees as appropriate.
Develops or assists in the development of research projects in areas of interest.
Reviews and evaluates new scientific and professional advances in clinical and community psychology and applies these to Chronic Pain services in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
Participates in the development and maintenance of high professional and clinical standards in accord with Nova Scotia Psychologist’s Act, Canadian Psychological Association Standards for Providers of Psychological Services and Ethical Code for Psychologists.
Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or Clinical Counselling from a recognized university program required
Doctoral degree an asset
Eligibility for registration under the Psychologist’s Act of Nova Scotia
Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience with the Chronic Pain population
Past training and skills in a variety of individual and group models
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as part of an interprofessional team
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to represent and respect client interests.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and provide leadership in areas of expertise.
Demonstrated ability to work in a variety of settings
Competencies in other languages, French preferred

Salary Information

$34.1283 - $44.8646 hourly
