Position Title: Program Assistant

Location: Cedarwood Village, Simcoe, ON Norfolk County

Reporting to: Program Manager

Job Class: Permanent Part Time 12 hrs per week shift 4-8pm with the opportunity for call ins for additional hours

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the Program Manager, you will assist with identifying and assessing the residents’ needs to develop fulfilling and meaningful activities based on their interests and needs
  • Assist to implement and facilitate scheduled and spontaneous activities that meet the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of all residents
  • Build positive relationships with the residents and foster their curiosity
  • Maintain appropriate resident attendance and evaluations of planned programs
  • Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with the Program Manager, volunteers and other members of the team
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Degree or Diploma in Recreation and Leisure or Therapeutic Recreation is required
  • Gerontology Background a definite asset
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with the population served
  • An understanding of the needs and realities of the elderly, including matters of mobility and communication, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia
  • Experience in a Long Term Care setting planning and facilitating group recreational programs is preferred
  • Montessori Methods for Dementia training a definite asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

SKILLS

  • Be an energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly, possessing excellent problem solving, planning and creative abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written English) with the ability to engage your audience and establish rapport
  • Ability to adapt to frequently changing and challenging situations
