The IMS and Wireless Voice Services DevOps team drives strategy, development and operations of TELUS current and next-generation IP Multimedia Subsystem Core Networks, providing Voice and multimedia services nationally on TELUS state-of-the-art access networks (including 4G/5G, GPON and others). This team designs, builds/integrates and operates multiple mass-scale mission-critical service platforms, including VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and VoWiFi serving millions of subscribers across the country. Our team members are empowered to initiate and innovate, exposing new services and technologies to the Business, implementing POCs in Lab and Production environment, translating ideas into business cases and making real-world products with them: deploying, scaling, supporting, evolving. We leverage a broad range of technologies spanning virtualization, containers, automation, AI, and we are passionate as we optimize, improve service KPIs and ever increase service reliability and core infrastructure resiliency.

As a Design Specialist II / Engineer II, you will be helping the IMS/VoLTE Development team as we complete virtualization of our core network, we introduce container-based network elements, scale-out our deployment and leverage our all-IP build to drive innovation: developing new services, improving existing flows and also workflows. Your creativity and IMS/Wireless core technical background coupled with a passion for application development - leveraging and embracing open frameworks and DevOps tools will allow us to grow TELUS services portfolio for the Consumer and SMB markets, expanding and redefining the meaning of real time communication services. You will exercise your entrepreneurial spirit and innovative vision to change the way TELUS leverages technology. Provide technical support and own testing, design, integration and evolution aspects of IMS-based services and associated core platforms, including VoLTE, VoWiFi, next-gen Home Phone
Translate Business requirements into deployable and solid technical solutions – and vice-versa: leverage state of the art technology to build lab and production demos and trials, showcasing the art-of-the-possible to Business owners
Produce best practice node and services configuration as needed to implement and test the required services. Develop and execute test plans and test cases to verify the implementation against the target requirements and project goals.
Work with other teams and stakeholders, Vendors, Platforms and source code, as applicable, to understand and resolve technical issues impacting IMS-based services and drive the issues all the way to resolution
Support Operations, Performance and Capacity Planning for the platforms in the team scope
Research and share the state of the art on both technology and workflow improvement tools – DevOps toolchains
Lead and participate in the creation of technical design documentation as well as operational MOPs: detail design, architecture documents, procedures for network changes
Participate in Service and Operational optimization initiatives, working together with other teams within the company
You’re the missing piece of the puzzle
With a Bachelor degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or related discipline
Respected for your 3+ years of relevant professional experience or equivalent academic track of record in IP Multimedia Subsystems / SIP / Mobile networks and/or related technologies
Known for your in-depth technical knowledge of mobile voice core network architecture, core network elements (IMS: P/S/I-CSCF, TAS, MRFP, MGCF, ENUM, HSS), current communications protocols (including: SIP, RTP, Diameter, H.248) and the IP family of protocols ((e.g. TCP/IP, IPv6, as well as HTTP, SCTP, DIAMETER, SIGTRAN), applicable security concepts (TLS, IPsec) and network management (e.g. SNMP, NETCONF)
Skilled in understanding mobility call/session flows in VoLTE (4G/LTE) networks (3g/5g: an asset), basic understanding of emergency call flows (E911 and location) is desired; online and offline charging flows are an asset
Talented at network-side service development leveraging modern programming / scripting languages such as Python, Rust, NodeJS; solid understanding of DevOps tools and application/function deployment platforms and tools: virtualization with QEMU/KVM, Kubernetes, Ansible, Jenkins/Travis, Git; ELK Stack, Jira and Confluence
Known for your experience working on Linux operating systems and open cloud computing platforms: RedHat / CentOS, Kubernetes / OpenShift / OpenStack
Recognized for your knowledge of 3GPP, ETSI, IEEE and other industry standards associations
Committed to building strong relationships with key stakeholders including senior management and Business stakeholders across our and partnering organizations
Regarded for your excellent written and interpersonal skills, being able to initiate, plan, coordinate, and monitor autonomously
Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or related discipline
Development (coding) background in a DevOps environment, server and/or client side
Mobile application development frameworks: experience on the basics of Android/IOS app dev workflows
Professional certifications: Red Hat (RHCE), OpenShift/OpenStack, Voice/VoIP, Routing and Switching
