A qualitative study of patient and provider perspectives on overcoming barriers to HIV care and retention (RETAIN/SHAPE)

STATUS: This is a casual, part-time (~5-15 hours/week, with flexibility) one-year contract with the possibility of extension.

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, BC

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world renown HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.


· The SHAPE/RETAIN studyseeks to better understand the strategies which people living with HIV (PLWH) and their care-providers/teams use to help them stay connected to care, and capture what actually works to address treatment disengagement, to better meet the needs of PLWH in BC.

· The position will involve many tasks. This will include, but is not limited to, obtaining consent from clients doing the interview, assisting the research coordinator with qualitative interviews and other knowledge gathering activities, administering the honorarium to clients who participate in the interview, maintaining records and completing paperwork.

· You will also support analysis of the results and knowledge translation and exchange (KTE) activities. You will work collaboratively with academic researchers and other PRAs.

· We are looking for people who are passionate about doing this job, have an interest in learning research methods, areable to work as part of a diverse team. You must have good reading comprehension, verbal communication, and basic computer skills such as familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.

· We are looking for someone to help build positive relationship and engage community participation.

· Have a desire to work in research and have an interest in Indigenous Peoples’ health

· Youare not required to have previous research experience, but previous experience is an asset. The expectation is that you would fit the description of a PRA for this job (please see below: “About PRAs for this Job”).


· For this job, PRAs are defined as persons living with HIV/AIDS who have experiences and identities in common with people who will be part of the study. For the purposes of this study, PRAs are people who are living with HIV.

· We are looking for someone with an understanding of common barriers/challenges faced by people living with HIV (PLWH).

· Knowledge about concerns related to Indigenous people’s health in BC an asset.

The Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS requires all successful applicants sign a confidentiality agreement and complete a criminal record check before commencing employment.
